McDermott will do as well or better than Orr if we give him the chance. (Check todays final score) Incorrect on players w/ talent. Jiri has the talent and Wes has more talent than all of them. He just has injuries

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
Howard Eaton was another guy on that 92 squad. He was a very good defender/rebounder. That team had excellent talent. I was in school from 88-92 and had to suffer through 2 of Orr's poorest seasons. I'm not sure of the exact number but I believe we averaged 12 wins during the 89-90 and 90-91 seasons. My freshman year wasn't that great either at something like 17-12. A few of you need a reality check.
As far as Gmac not having any quality wins at ISU you might want to check who is leading the Big X. I think we did ok against them.

And we beat the Superbowl challenged Iowa Hawkeyes who upset Mich State and OSU but lost to perennial powerhouse Drake.

That is true, the win against Purdue looks good now, but they have improved soooooo much where I really don't think ISU is much better now than when we played them.
That was a quality win, I just wish we had one win in the last 2 years that is a HUGE win, like over a top 25 team or something. We almost had 2, 1 last year against Kansas and 1 this year against Texas. I think next year's squad will be able to finish those games off and get us some BIG W's! -

Time to beat KU and let KSU win the conference.

Oh yes, that would really get the ball rolling! -

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
It would be huge to end the season with a couple big wins to carry the team and recruiting into next season.

We were drinking the koolaid the first half and we ended up eating prime rib in the second half. Go Clones.
Better to go out on top than the bottom.

To describe why, I have come up with something Albert Einstein used to do: a thought experiment. Imagine that we had access to a genuine time machine, and could use it to allow this team and a certain Johnny Orr team to play each other. The team I am thinking of (I forget the year -- sorry) was the one in which Fred Hoiberg was a freshman. Which team would win?
I think that Johnny Orr team would win, fairly easily. Now what I'd like to talk about is: why? This team (this year's team) is light years ahead of that J.O. team in terms of raw talent, experience, etc. We would excel in almost every area -- and lose. That J.O. team had very little experience or talent, but still managed to win games and claw their way into the NCAA Tournament, and even get to the second round before losing to a very hungry Kentucky team. This team is way ahead of that team in terms of both talent and experience, but we couldn't think about the NCAAs right now at all, period.
What is it that is so completely missing from this team? We have experience and talent galore, and still suck. Ultimately, that falls on the coach, which is why I am having serious doubts about McDermott.
Oh, and by the way, I turned the game off. Even if we somehow win, we don't deserve to. You've really made yourself look like an idiot today. Congratulations.

Here is another little thing to help you get on the "anti-McD" bus: Can you name one game in which McD out-coached a team that had more talent than us? Me either. Actually, can you name a team that McD out-coached....period? Pretty masterful coaching when you win a game against a B12 team with proven experience and talent with 4 walk-ons on the court. Pretty masterful...

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
I love the fact this thread was started right as the first half was over.
Some people need to step away from the computer when they are upset. Unless they like creating a meltdown for nothing. We had a nice little win, but instead of talking about the sweet plays, nice effort, or former players returning today. We spend our time debating if our coach is worthy.
Nice job you classless acts.

Yeah, I will admit I was pretty intense at halftime and probably shouldn't have posted until I calmed down but oh well.
What 4 walk-on's do you mean? Peterson is on schollie isn't he? Wouldn't it be Haluska and Lee (only 2)?

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
Cyclone 42, your argument is wrong at its premise. The 91-92 team that you spoke of was much more talented than this team. Had they learned how to win on the road, and had Skip McCoy not transferred to New Mexico State, the next year could have been really special.
But to say that there aren't things to be concerned about with the way this team is performing, well that is just silly as well.

Re: I have SERIOUS doubts about McDermott
I'm glad we won. However, I'm getting motion sickness from the pendulum swinging around here. From the 1st half McD haters to the 2nd half McD lovers, its a wee bit crazy on both sides. If this were a football game, I feel like we'd be tearing the goal posts down after beating Baylor about now.
