Why McD is a GOOD coach and needs more time

1. He has a 6 year contract.
2. JP has said it will 2 1/2 yrs before McD system is all in place
3. After year 3 look at the program and see where it is then
4. There are only 7 recruited scholarship players on this team
5. There are 4 walk ons that are getting playing time
6. This team is so young
7. This teams best players hasnt been 100% all year
8. McD does things the right way and doenst cut corners.
9. More of his players need to get to campus
10. He is from the state of Iowa
11. These things take time, there will be rough spots in the road, and good times.
12. When Morgan was let go this program was pillaged of most good players
13. He is not using this as a stepping stone.
14. It takes even the best coachs time to get stuff turned around

Mac is a good coach, and it takes time, no matter how hard patience is. Don't forget an extremely high rate of player turnover rate. For people complaining about the offense,did you ever stop and think that maybe the player's are supposed to move but they don't?

Thanks for starting this thread. The mods need to ax any further threads with negative overview of Coach Mcdermott. Quality person, quality coach, quality representative of Iowa State who doesn't deserve negative feedback.

McDermott should have gotten a couple more fans today. Sustained success doesn't happy quickly.

Rahshon had some great rebounds. Refs in the end were okay.

I agree with everything you say. But CF tries to be open for all opinions. As long as they don't attack others.

I agree, McD is going to be a great coach for us and I believe in his system. As much as I cant stand the chicken littles and haters, they are entitled to their opinions......

You're completely correct. Just bothered me that Coach has to deal with this crap on top of his regular duties. More wins will come from positive feedback toward the team than negative totally irrational bull. I'll just take further negative posts for what they are.

Thats the thing though. Us taking the abuse from them is one thing, but players and coaches have to hear it and you know it has to hurt a little. I feel bad for them.

I might have said Year 4, because Clayton Vette's departure apparently leaves things thin inside for year 3. Another year lets Hamilton develop.

another point, is our point guard issue. (no pun intended). Taylor was a scorer, but not "under control" as you'd like a pt. to be. This year, we have frosh, juco transfers, or walk-ons. There is an obvious advantage to having a heady pt. who's been in the coaches system for several years that can make the offense go, and use our "talent"- which if ANYWHERE is in the forward/ post positions. Here's to Garrett and Buckley buying into McD's offensive ideas...

...and get guys like Johnson and Brackins to the next level

I'm sure the doubters weren't there, but I doubt that anyone who heard his postgame presentation with all the letterwinners would say that this man isn't the right man for this place

Sometimes I worry this site will become like the CR message board, full of hate. I belong to CR and think their message board is full of Hawk fans with ISU screen names in front of them.
