Century Celebration Thread

I want to hear some stories and recaps from the autograph session, alumni game and halftime ceremony. Let's have 'em.

How was the game? Is there anyway we can watch it?

Ditto that. Everybody must be out celebrating our resounding, convincing, and never in doubt victory!

Re: Century Celebration Thread

Okay, most memorable moment:
In the second half, Freddie Gordon (1939-41) came out and planted himself near his basket. All the players gather around him and he gets the ball. He tries multiple times to make a basket, but no luck. One player (can't remember who) acts like he's going to try to pick the guy up so he can get closer to the basket. One of the refs suddenly runs over to a ladder that is sitting behind the basket and pulls it onto the court. They help Freddie up the ladder, hand him the ball and the guy finally makes it. It was pretty funny to watch.
The game was pretty good - a lot like the Barry Stevens tribute game without the Paul Shirley commentary. They mostly kept the teams at the same age level while they were on the court. The oldest and the ones who have injuries (Michalik, etc) would only play for a few minutes at a time, and the rotated players on a regular basis so everyone got to play.

Bliss to you!

Cato didn't play in the game.

It got pretty competitve for the last minute. The Mayor got the last second tip-in for the win. It seemed just about right.

There couldn't have been a more fitting end to that game.

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

My favorite moment of the Alumni game was when ...

One of the older alums came into the game, I don't remember his name, unfortunately, but I think that he played in the '40s? He tries several times to make a basket, but doesn't succeed. One of the officials runs around the basket, grabs a step-ladder (what is a step ladder doing in the arena? ), and carries it to where the player is standing under the basket. The alum climbs the ladder, with the other players on the court and the fans cheering him on, and puts the ball in the basket. The crowd goes wild.

Our ISU alum, guessing that he is in his late 70s early 80s, makes the shot, and hears the crowd roar one more time.

Good for him, and good for the fans.

Forgive me for being sentimental, but THAT, is what it means to be a Cyclone.

That old guy would likely have been mid 80s, pushing 90, I thought. I thought he played in the late 30s.

I'll forgive you. I still tear up thinking about it. (OK, I teared up through most of the DVD)

I am watching the DVD -- to 2001 beating KU -- and have goose bumps upon goose bumps upon goose bumps.

This might be hard to believe, but a Hawkeye fan I work with thinks that we've never beaten Kansas.

Sadly, not hard to believe at all . Just out of curiousity, is this hawkeye fan an alum as well? Or just a "fan".

Strangely, no. He went to Minnesota, but hates the Gophers.
