Re: Barz offically gone
Now, there is a coach who is feeling some heat. Greg is in no trouble here, but Ben is hearing it up here. UNI built that new building with the idea that they were going to remain relevant in the MVC, and they have had one game (Iowa) that sold out. Now they are drawing about 4000 people a game, and they are 15-11. They quit on Ben last year, and they have struggled in a down year in the Valley. People aren't real enthused. Jake needs a good run in St Louis to lighten the offseason.

Reading Between the Lines
Based on Jacobson's comments Bartz didn't have the skills or mindset to compete at the MVC level. Sometimes giving a scholarship to a kid early on pays off- other times the kid doesn't develop.

I feel bad for Ben. I really hope he succeeds there and they dont shaft him.

Re: Barz offically gone
Really not physched about Barz. Would prefer immediate help in a Juco big guy.

In all honesty, I don't think that he was ready for the promotion. He will need to grow into the position, and that takes time. And, unfortunately for him, UNI is not in the financial position to be as patient as he may need them to be.
Like I said, he needs a good to great weekend in St Louis to lighten the load.

Some perspective on UNI however.......(with respect from my friend PTTB at panthernation.com)
Prior to Mac and Jake coming to UNI, the number of times UNI has won 15 games or more in the past 30 years....5 times! In the past 40 years? 7. Seven times (and that goes back to the D2 years). I know that there are people upset at times over the lack of perceived play, but I think it's perspective that we must have to realize that even in a year where we have had multiple injuries to key players, that with 15% of the season left, we still have 15 wins.
Prior to Mac and Jake, how many times has UNI won at least 18 games (like they have the last 4 years)? 4 times in 45 years. How many back-to-back 16+ win seasons? Twice in 40 years.
Just some perspective.
I would be surprised if Mac, entertained the thought of Barz

That's what makes GMac's resume look so impressive. He's gone a lot of places that haven't won in a long time and got them winning. Hopefully he can make that magic work in a place that's used to winning(at least we used to think that way )

I agree the job that Mac, and Jake, have done for the Panthers deserves all of Panther alumni's appreciation. Jake was an easy choice for Rick when Greg went to Ames. And everyone thought that the transition would be relatively seamless.
The problem is that the team struggled down the stretch last year, and they have been only decent this year. Unfortunately Ahelegbe (sp) going down force Josten to have to play point guard, and they have had problems in that area as well. And the Coleman thing, bringing him off the bench, didn't work that well for him. They lost a tough one to Iowa, and Drake's season hasn't helped him at all.
Jake is a nice guy, but he is different from Mac in that he is a little, or a lot, more reserved. I hope, for his sake, that the new AD, whoever that may be, is willing to be patient. And he has enough seniors that have played a lot of basketball that they can make a run in St Louis. It would sure lighten the mood around here if he could do that.

Re: Barz offically gone
Yeah I'm not sure if Jake is the answer for UNI. He was kind of the calm guy for GMac. Maybe he needs to hire a firery assistant so they can be bad cop, good cop with the players.
