Re: ISU vs. Mizzu postgame thread
Wow what a tough loss Im sure Greg will take some of the blame for us not slowing down the game with a 12 point lead that was a coaching error. DG was our only bright spot. Wesley I think hurt us more than helped us Rahshon had a bum knee and out-hustled everyone on the court Wesley was a little lazy in my book but hey we were in a road game for once this year not to bad.

I know he brings some intangibles to the floor, but guys who are in line to play as many minutes as Thompson is next year need to PRODUCE.
If Jiri is the worst starting big man we've had in a long time (which isn't true, either) then strap yourselves in for next season. 1-Tell where in my statement that I said we were better off without Jiri? Hell, I even praised him at the end.
2-Tell me who Jiri has been better than in recent ISU history. I'm talking big men who we rely on?

Re: ISU vs. Mizzu postgame thread
Here's a link to Jiri's game-by-game stats for this year... ESPN - Iowa State Cyclones - Jiri Hubalek - NCAA College Basketball
He's been in double-figures in all but 4 conference games (2 of those games were at KSU and KU - when no one was dependable). 5 rebounds or more in all but 1 game.
Now, I may be way off base here, but to me, that looks like a dependable center. Not some out-of-this-world player - but he was dependable this year. Especially in conference play.

2. Damion Staple, Reggie George, Robert Faulkner, Shawn Taggert...just to name a few from the past few years.

I beleive both Kansas and Kansas State were doubling and tripling him on EVERY touch those games too... He gave other guys the chance to step up by dishing it out and they crumbled...

Re: ISU vs. Mizzu postgame thread
Jiri is one of the major reason we were in most games and a major part in the games we won without him we would be alot worse.

Re: ISU vs. Mizzu postgame thread
Right.
The fact is, Jiri is really one of the last guys that deserves criticism this year. Early on, much like last year, he looked rough. I think most of that was because of an injury.
I can list at least 4-5 other guys that are way ahead of Jiri on the "lets be critical of them" list.
Our rebounding and ability to score inside really worries me next year.

I have mixed feelings about Jiri, but I will say that I am tired of seeing or "big men" taking three after three. There is something to be said about post play

However, Jiri is one of the best shooters on the team and look at this 3PT% for this year...
38.5% (15/39)
That's not a typo. It's the best on the team with Petey and Wes behind him.

That's not a typo. I would have guessed it was better than that. Seems like he hasn't missed too much of them lately.

Re: ISU vs. Mizzu postgame thread
A big guy that can shoot presents huge matchup problems, so I don't have a problem with them jacking up some threes. It's finding the balance between post shots and perimeter shots that is needed. Jiri seemed to have found that balance...Brackins still needs to.
