Fremont Bergan wins 51-39 and advances to state championship game
This game was just like the last time they played Mead in the district, a slow low scoring game. Wes hurt his lower back in the team warmup and was hurting significantly during the game, he had to go into the locker room in the 3rd period. He was knocked to the floor several times during the game by the Mead players. My stats again may not be 100% accurate. The team really struggled to score today. Wes scored 17 points in the first half of the 23 Bergan scored and ended the game with 35 points. Wes took all the shoots in the 4th period except for 4 free throws by his team mates, scoring 13 of the teams 15 points in the 4th period. Wes did not miss a 2 point attempt for the game making 8 for 8, he made 1-5 3 pointers, you could tell his back was hurt and he went 16 of 16 from the line. Wes had multiple steals and assists, I did not keep track.
GMAC was at the game and I went up and talked to him and I had so many questions I wanted to ask, but I bit my tongue.
I will post the links for the video and audio streams later today for tomorrows game.
There will be a post game at Lazlo's in the Haymarket on Saturaday. Knights headed to state final - Sports - Prep - The Fremont Tribune - Fremont, Nebraska's Community Newspaper -

Nothing specific or note worthy. He spent most of the game on the phone talking and texting.

Actually I heard that Eikmeier's mom really wants him to go to Nebrasksa and it turns out that it was his estranged grandmother that signed the LOI so it may not be valid.
Kidding...
have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.
So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough? -

CLASS D-1 FREMONT BERGAN (26-0) VS. HUMPHREY SF (23-2)
11:30 a.m., Devaney Center What to watch: Bergan's Wes Eikmeier scored 35 points with a sore back against Mead. The Iowa State recruit is 10th all-time with 2,150 points and needs seven points to move into the top 10 on the all-time season chart. St. Francis may not be as fresh after going to OT to beat Hayes Center. Our pick: Bergan will be a wire-to-wire state champion.

Omaha.com High School Sports Section Cyclone coach admires Eikmeier You have to stand close to Wes Eikmeier to realize how skinny he is.
His shoulders aren't much broader than the length of his shoe. His elbows could poke out an eye.
Greg McDermott, the Iowa State basketball coach who signed Eikmeier to play for the Cyclones, sees not these things.
He sees unselfish offense and tenacious defense, a smooth stroke and superb balance.
"He's got that in-between game not a lot of people have," McDermott said. "He can pull up and score from eight to 17 feet. That's kind of a lost art."
McDermott, who was at Pershing Center to watch Fremont Bergan handle Mead, compared Eikmeier's offense to former Creighton guard Nate Funk. Nothing flashy, but tough to defend.
He's right. You have to study Eikmeier up close to understand his skill.
He doesn't pass the eye test. A stranger might need several minutes of action to pick him out as the one who averages 30 points, the one who scored 59 on North Bend.
But it's clearly Eikmeier, whose intensity draws praise from coaches around the state, fueling one of the best teams Class D has ever produced.
He's explosive with the ball, but always under control. He hits leaners with defenders draped on him. He can pass in traffic.
Eikmeier may turn into more of a spot-up shooter in the Big 12 — he hit 10 3-pointers against North Bend. With the college 3-point line moving back one foot next season, McDermott said, sharpshooters will be at a premium.
Doc Sadler, upon his hiring, recruited Eikmeier in the fall of 2006, but McDermott had beat him to it.
Eikmeier must get stronger and quicker, but his work ethic — like the state's other two stars, Antoine Young and Josh Jones — is firmly entrenched. In fact, he can bench-press 235 pounds, he says.

Pfft... Having a bum back in Nebraska means less than having a bum back in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, etc. -

Seriously, 235 lb bench press? That's a lot for a skinny 17 year old kid.
