The statement is easily countered by those who believe that the team is not yet operating up to Greg's standards, and, based on the savvy play of some of his past teams, is bound to vastly improve in the future.

Minus guards with Div. I experience, minus the team's playmaker (Taylor), given three rookie starters (Petey, Haluska, Brackins), given the injuries, I'll be damned if I'm going to brand Greg with this label or that label based on this team's production.

We have not seen the best of Greg yet as far as results go, far from it. If future McDermott teams do not show stairstep progress upward, then I'll worry. I know there are many others here with similar outlooks.

Two more years we will know.

Size does matter, but I would be very happy to get someone like a Damion Staple (6'7 ) an Eric Coleman (6'6) or a Kenny Pratt (6'5) if he is out there.

Wait another two years? Greg needs to seriously upgrade his recruiting. Whatever this radio interview exposed, I find it really hard to believe a D1 coach at a Big 12 university would not realize that recruiting is the key. We have a long way to go to get to the upper level of the Big 12 and it all starts with talent.

Without actually hearing it myself, Im not too worried. I dont think it exposed any weaknesses in GM coaching or recruiting. His open conversation about things probably backfires when people waiting to pull out the negatives are listening.

What are you guys smoking tonight? We have Craig Brackins, Wesley Johnson, Diante Garret, The number 1 or 2 player in Michigan and Nebraska coming in next year. Our recruiting is going just fine.:skeptical:

The same complainers as usual. With the same complaints, Based on what? A comment heard on a radio station by a friend's brother's uncle while driving in traffic in a snowstorm. In other words you are critisizing the coach about something you don't even know he said. Some fans are sooo refreshing.

I'm a little surprised that he's recruiting juco wings myself now, but when I thought about it, it made sense. First off, he's looking for a dimension of defense that Rahshon had, and WJ hasn't been able to. Wes would need some relief as well--Lucca and Company aren't the quickest guys. There are some talented guys at the forward slot in the conference, like James Anderson at OSU. Secondly, these guys have two years--which means the scholarship slots would reopen when the 2010 Dykstra-Barnes-Stevens-Anderson class is ready to enroll. :cool:

i wish mcdermott couldve got p allen stinnet to stay with his loi and come to iowa state, he led creighton in scoring today and looked pretty well, and lawrence westbrook from minnesota had his loi signed to come to isu too, dang, we have lost so many players do to transfers, leaving early for the draft, and guys who got out of their loi

OK, OK, --- First off I like Coach Mc, I like his system. At UNI he had two guards that developed into absolute super players in Crawford and Jacobsen. He rode those guys to the tournament 3 times. Now I do think he is a young coach and will get better. (Remember the year Floyd just got hammered) But I will say this about the 3 tournament games he coached. First GT was the best job he had done. Hung with a final 4 team that had superior talent. The G'town and Wisconsin games he got coached under the table imho. Now that doesn't mean it will happen the next time he goes, he sees better coaches night in and night out now and I am sure he is improving. He needs that signature win first, either in the tournament this weekend or next year. He got close with Texas this year but just could not pull it off. I really think Coach Mc is the kind of person that you want running a program, but he is paid to win BB games and right now it is not working out like we would like. I think next year is the year we find out if he is the long term guy we hoped for. I want to puke about this but EIU will be in the middle of that SH**ty league next year and Greggy will feel the heat.

Purdue is the signature win since they've snuck into the top 20.

Come on George Town had a 7 footer. Little UNI actually played them tough most of the game.

I don't think JP is going to lay any heat on GMac until year 4 or 5 into this. However after watching today game and knowing what we have coming in for players next year I'm really not too concerned. We will see improvement.:yes:

So, how many seasons has McD coached at Iowa State, again?

Thought so. C'mon, guys, have a "little" patience.

I know it's hard when you come off a bad season, but these things DO take time. Even in Basketball.

The only GMac game I've seen live was the @CU game last week and that was some of the worst, flat-footed, laziest defense I've seen a Cyclone team play in a while.

It might not hurt to ask the question: Who has ever gone into a job, and found out it was different from their expectations?

By some people's logic, anyone that has found that out shows bad judgment, and should have been fired.

Let's face it, everyone learns on the go. Give Mac credit for actually being willing to say it.

Which is how we play @CU for as long as I can remember. There is a reason most of us dread that game.
