When do you call a intentional foul?

I know the zebras would not call the hack of DG intentional, but when the head coach is running down the sideline, way out of the coaches box, yelling at his player to foul someone, that sounds like it is intentional.

Unless you mug a guy it usually doesnt get called. I dont like the fact when you are up by 3 late you foul and put a kid on the line. I know others disagree but why not make the other team beat you?

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Re: When do you call a intentional foul?

The IHSAA has made it illegal for coaches to call for a foul. If a coach yells for a player to foul and the player does, it is supposed to be called an intentional. I've never seen it called because everyone just uses a preassigned word that means foul now, but that is the rule in Iowa. Just thought some might find it interesting.

Depends if you are Kansas or not - two sets of rules.

Re: When do you call a intentional foul?

The rule states that " a player must make a play on the ball otherwise its an intentional foul" recently this was used for the suspension of Dirk Nowitzki for his foul. As long as the player makes an attempt at making a play to steal of block the ball it cannot be considered intentional.

Because when they can a 3 and beat you in overtime, the writers and fans will all ask you why you didn't foul and put a kid on the line.

In fact, I think there are too many coaches who don't use this strategy and end up getting burned.

Same thing in the (307) area code. We use the word "Red" to indicate foul.

Re: When do you call a intentional foul?

It looked like DG tried to throw up a shot attempt after he was fouled. If it had been a step sooner, he could have made KSU regret fouling.

Re: When do you call a intentional foul?

When I referee games, I just assume that unless it is late in a game, if they don't go for ball it is an intentional foul.

Late in games if they are just reaching out to try and stop the game it and it isn't a rough foul then I just call the foul before someone does get hurt. . .
