How in the world was Wesley Johnson honorable mention all-conference. We finished last in the league, winning no road games and beating the bottom half of the conference at home. Wesley had one dimension to his game this year, perimeter shooting. He was a poor defender, a poor rebounder, a mediocre passer, a mediocre ball handler, and a poor penetrator. I dont know how that adds up to all-conference. He did not affect winning in very many ways.
I think Wes will end up being a good player and his injury was bothering him, but this award was all off of hype and past performance.

Wow - I think Wes was one of the 20 best players in the conf, but that's just me. He with Jiri were the only two guys opponents had to game plan for and Wes often had the other teams' best G/F defender. His injury definitely slowed him down all year too.
Don't think we need to completely bash the kid on his own school's message boards, but again, it's just me.

Wes would start on nearly any team in the nation even injured. To say he doesn't belong on the Honorable Mentions, I think you need to quit watching Seinfeld, and start watching college basketball | | |

Must have missed his five 20 point games huh?
Who do you think deserves to be on the honorable mention list more?

While I was a little surprised he was on the list, he was a big factor for our team and in the conference when playing healthy.

I think Wes definitely did deserve honorable mention but I do see what the original poster is saying...Wes is shooting under 40% for the season and doesn't exactly light it up on defense.

I get what you are saying and I agree with you that he was very one dimensional, but it's not like he was first or second team all conference. He was honorable mention. Who cares?

Did you even watch the games? We were terrible but don't you recall the small series of games where Wes scored 24 and 20 in wins against Missouri and Oaklahoma St? If you watched those games he was amazing!! He obviously showed his potential of impacting games when he's 100% healthy. I can also remember the KU and Kstate games when we went to their places and he was basically out there by himself (20 pts each) as the rest of the team, Jiri included layed eggs. The kid fought through injury which affected him.. bottom line. Yes he can get better but who would you have chosen ahead of him? And you are wrong again about the hype.. Wes got ZERO preseason honors, where have you been Costanza?

I can think of 3 or 4 teams in the Big 12 alone that Wes would not start for if he's playing injured.
We all love Wes, lets just not get blinded by it.

You are basically saying he is one of the 10 best swingmen in the college ranks. He would need to be and All American for that to be the case and he is honorable mention B12.

I love Wes, but I think some of us on this site are a little bias. Yes, Wes had some really great games, but some are forgetting the string of games where he was basically non-existent. I know he was hurt, but that doesn't matter. There are a lot of great players on other teams that played just as well (or at least more consistent) than Wes did. Not sure if I agree with him getting it, but he got it, so let's all just be proud for him.

Yes, but he can play anywhere from the 2 to the 4. The 11th best swingman, I don't know who that is exactly, but he would start for every team in the nation, because they would find a spot for him if you think about it.
I'm just saying that he was deserving of being on the Honorable Metion list, even if you don't think he would start for the 50 best teams.
