Gmac on line-ups next year

Whoever asked the first three questions, great job.

Mac basically said who they sign will dictate how we play next year. He said that we definitely could see allot of Wes at the 4.

Definitely sounds like they have no idea who will redshirt and who won't.

I get the impression he expects Buckley to be the most ready right off the bat, based on his comments about the newcomers.

Said Hamilton has developed way past the point the staff expected him too. It will be all about how he develops his body between now and next year as to how much he can contribute next season.

Sounds like Petey is interested in coaching.

Again, he said we WILL sign 2 players this spring. Sounds like they are more interested in the 2 best available that targeting a specific position.

I have trust in GMac every day of the week! You can't really go into summer workouts saying your going to redshirt so and so without seeing how they bond with the other teammates adn see where they are mentally and physically when they get here. There is a lot of time from now til summer workouts to gain added strength and come down for a few weekends to bond with the team!

There are a couple great options on the recruiting front. If we can get one of the JUCO's with 3 yrs left, that would be a huge boost. We have a couple that we're after and it's pretty much a first-commit type of situation.

I really think we're going to be a solid team next year - possibly middle of the conference. If we can get one of the above JUCO's, we will have a very solid foundation built.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Obviously one of those guys is Brad Reese but should we expect more visits in the next couple of weekends from these JUCO's?

Re: Gmac on line-ups next year

I think your last comment touched on something important. GMac has shown that he is not afraid to move people around to get a good lineup. Wes from 2 to 4 next year is a good indication of that. I totally agree that he his looking for the two best players out there to help this team immediately off the bench. There is a good core, and everyone seems willing to play anywhere. Get 2 great players that could fit anywhere and then next year start worrying about positions.

Justin's playing next year for certain, based on what i'm reading here. He's got some skills, and we don't have a lot of depth in the middle. Alex is our only true center, nobody behind him. There is no way we redshirt a 6'11" player who can contribute.

That is not true, straight from Gmac's mouth, 'it would certainly be in Justin's best interest to redshirt'. It sounds like they are still completely undecided.

Again why are people fixed on the idea of the need of a 'true center'. Lots of teams win without them

I've said for a while now, I'm very intrigued by a 3-guard lineup with Wes at the 4 and Craig at the 5. Both of those guys need to get bigger in the off-season and play much better defense for that to work.

But between Garrett, Petey, Sean, Lucca, Buckley, Boozer, Lee and Eik (if he doesn't readshirt) - I like our abilities there.

Im glad there are other people out there who think that way.

We think alike on this topic. I think it is clearly our best chance to win next year. No reason in starting Thompson if he is our best option at center. He is clearly not ready to be productive in the Big XII.

Re: Gmac on line-ups next year

I think there is a lot still up in the air to determine who redshirts. As it stands Hamilton is the most likely but that depends on how well everybody gels and if we appear capable of running a 3 guard lineup. If Lucca isn't suffering too much and Brackins and Wes can get their strength up, we could very well see Hamilton redshirt. That also depends on if we can get some JUCO talent in to play immediately. I would bet the final decision ends up being based on what JUCO player(s) we can get to play right away and give Hamilton a year to develop even further.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

My opinion is let Hamilton play. My hope would be that within 4 years we should be able to over recruit him. No need to keep him here 5. Just let him get his feet wet and contribute as much as possible.

But, Alex is going to be a key part of our success. He provides good defense inside, which is Craig's weakest point right now. I'm not at all worried about putting him in to spell Craig as long as our guards can score like I think they should. Of course, having a healthy Wes won't suck.

Re: Gmac on line-ups next year

I am not saying to not play him at all. I just don't want him to start. I don't mind him playing 20-25 minutes a game like he does now. I just don't want him getting starters minutes when we have better options.
