Thanks for your input though

I hope he can become a 'team leader' that is actually in position to control the game...we haven't had that in a while

Re: Domonique Buckley star rating
Ballhandling is the area we need to improve the most. Hopefully DB will be as good as advertised. Our best teams had Tinsley and Horton handling the ball. You couldn't take it from those guys, and if you tried, they made you pay. I recently watched the replay of ISU's win at Lawrence in 2001. It was the Tinsley and Horton show.

Couldnt agree more....not having a true PG and those skills for ball handling is a recipe for turnovers - and oh by the way, we turn it over a bit too often.....
These things were discussing has to be a huge recruiting tool for Harrison Barnes.....yeah he may be able to go to Duke or North Carolina and play with some of the greatest basketball talent in the world - but, if the foundation is laid for something truly special with our squad for 2009, i think his commitment in 2009-2010 will be hard for him to go elsewhere. Plus he has connections with current players and coaches, mother has a job as ISU, he could be the big man on campus before he's even on campus.....
Harrison - Read this, commit soon and then start selling Evan Anderson the idea of joining you and Jordan in the 2010 recruiting class and who's to say your not playing for a championship....Big 12 that is, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves....
Look at most if not all the top candidates for NCAA championship level teams, they usually start with an awesome set of guards, hate to break it to none college basketball fans but, Guards win college games not centers.....

I've been wondering lately if something like this could not happen: Jordan Dykstra is on board for the 2010 class. (I wonder if Jordan and Harrison know each other very well right now.) If Harrison were to commit to ISU by or during his junior year -- two outstanding Iowa preps forming the corps of the 2010 class -- might not the pair of them prove instrumental in landing some of the other national-level recruits that the staff reportedly are deep on?
A sort of 'come aboard' message from Jordan and Harrison, 'think what we can do together as a class.'
Looks like the 2010 class could be five in number, depending upon who signs next month. If a three-year JUCO comes aboard, the 2010 class would number four, and so on.

The potential is there for 5 in 2010 but I don't see it happening. We'll probably take at least 1 3 year JUCO this year and maybe 1 2 year JUCO. I suspect the staff would take the best they can find for 2009 from the High School Ranks. So, already, you'd be down to 3 with Dykstra being 1 of the 3 and hopefully Barnes being the second. That leaves 1 open for 2010. For that one I like Evan Anderson or, if that falls through, how about Darius Stevens??

As I recall Mac explaining it, the 2009 scholarship would be the one that Alex currently holds and does not figure in the 2010 numbers available. (Thought I had saved a copy of the roster chart posted here recently but now I don't find it.)
Mac has said that he'll go after the best available player for 2009 irregardless of position since likely he'll only have one scholarship to offer.
(Where's that chart, I've got to save a copy. . . .)

Not only that, but from what I have read Darius is turning into a good player.

I do love to post the chart, so as requested:
ATs scholarship is done after the upcoming season. The only way he would be asked to give it up, I suspect, is if we take 3 players this spring. That would mean Sean, Petey, and AT would all go back to walk on status. However, we probably would take 2 at the most this spring and let AT finish he scholarship out freeing it up for 2009.
Note: I like to keep Barnes penciled in there.

I could be wrong, but to the best of my recollection from past Coach Mac explanations:
Petey and Sean both return to walk-on status next season, their scholarships are committed to two of next fall's rookies. Mac explained that Petey and Sean accepted scholarships this year with the understanding the scholarships would go elsewhere next season.
Rashon's and Jiri's scholarhips also go to two of the four incoming players.
Vette's and Brister's scholarships will be used next month to sign two players. I distinctly recall Mac using their names in explaining where the spring scholarships would come from. (An open scholarship is an open scholarship I assume, just his way of explaining it to fans, most likely.)
Alex is on scholarship, and, assuming he keeps it through next season, it is the scholarship that would free up for the lone 2009 signee.
Depending upon what class next month's signees are in, it appears we'll have 3-5 scholarships to award in 2010. Correct?

Re: Domonique Buckley star rating
Yet McD subs so much that the starters are usually on the floor together as a group for 20 minutes a game althought they average 28 minutes. Yiou still need to look at the backup players to see your team on the floor. Nos 6-9 will be very important also in a McD system.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
