Re: Its official

Did they take those pictures in one those little mall photo booths?

If so, they probably have a picture with all of them jammed in the booth at the same time.

I say let him give it a shot. If I had both unparrelled martial art skills and the ability to grow fierce beards, why not take advantage of both??

Justin Gage from Missouri played both FB and BB...he did pretty well in both. He was a role player in basketball but made the NFL with football.

Yeah, Julius Peppers seemed to do alright for himself. Tony Gonzalez, too. Charlie Ward won the Heisman. Now, I'm not saying that SJ is in the same league as these guys, but it's not like it's never been done before.

Re: Its official

I have no idea if this would work or not, but just for curiosity's sake, what if he redshirted this year in football, could he technically walk on and play basketball!?

Not sure East Texas first team is the basketball mecca you're making it out to be. This was an award given by Tyler's newspaper, for Tyler and surrounding areas. Tyler is only about 100,000 in population. It would not include Dallas. Probably includes Longview (~75,000). He did make his region's all region team (which includes about 20 players) for his class (2A, which appears to have HS enrollments between 200 and 450). Not saying he won't or can't contribute, but just because he was first team for Tyler's newspaper doesn't mean he'll step right in and contribute, especially since he will miss some practice time due to football.

Re: Its official

Sorry to be a pessimist, but I'll wait until basketball season to see if he's on the roster, much less a contributor. I remember Andy Stensrud was supposed to play both sports too, but I don't think he played even one minute of basketball for ISU.

Not much more for football, IIRC.

Re: Its official

Football is his primary sport, so if he contributes at all is BB it is just gravey for the program. If he doesn't then nothing is lost as his schollie is football. I hope he can and wish him the best.
