I have to admit I'm not very good at telling when someone is being sarcastic or actually mean what they say on this board. It is a lot easier in person.
Would I have liked to seen GMac land JVB? Yes, but I am more than happy with LA. If you compare LA's rank now vs. JVB's coming out of HS you would be very happy with who we got. JVB had a good Juco sophomore year and now the interest him has gone up. That doesn't mean that he is a better talent, he is just more experienced. He is more of a quick fix, but personally I am tired of quick fixes.

JVB is a 3 year, isn't he? He just needed to get a couple more classes to be eligible in the US to play ball.
That being said, I am not 100% sold on JVB. Even if we did get him, I wouldn't be shocked at all if we still see this starting 5:
DB
DG
LS
WJ
CB

'But I love the idea of the Sacrificial Lamb. . . There are consequences to actions. The point of the death of Christ is that Christ took on the sins of the world, so that what we put out did not come back to us, and that our sinful nature does not reap the obvious death. That's the point. It should keep us humbled. . . It's not our own good works that get us through the gates of heaven.'

Everyone expects McDermott to bring in a Kevin Durant or Michael Beasley or else they label him as a bad recruiter. Bringing in a superstar like that is great if you can keep doing it, but what happens if that is all you do? Then you are SOL when he leaves.
Instead, McDermott is building a good foundation of players who can be contributers down the road. Lets look two seasons down the road. You could see a starting lineup of Garrett, Steiger, Johnson, Brackins and Hamilton/Pomlee/VDB. Thats not bad. Off the bench you've got Buckley, Mann(Greg Brunner?), Eikmeier and whomever isn't starting in the post. I also haven't mentioned Boozer or any 2009 recruit.

I bet starting lineups will be
diante garret- point guard
lucca staiger guard/forward
Wesley Johnson- forward/guard
craig brackins- forward
Alex thompson - center/forward
I really hope brackins doesn't get stuck playing center, because brackins could get overpowered. Brackins showed a ton of potential especially against the 2nd Texas a&m game. 20 points,10 rebounds. Hopefully he can get those numbers every night next year. This would be a huge lineup

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

There are several people here that pretend like they know a lot about these recruits and who is good/bad when they probably have seen a :30 second clip (if that) and read some other guy's review of the kid (who probably is just as clueless).

Actually only 3, anointing Lucca before he's done anything on the court is absurd. Not saying after next year we can't point to him as a great recruit by Mac but as of right now he could be a career bench player, we just don't know.
