No, you don't do that. But it still happens.

Re: Good news....but far from great!

I am really optimistic about our team in the next few years but I do have my doubts about our secondary recruits the past year (Boozer, Vette, Brister, Pomlee). That's why I don't get signing guys just b/c we have scholarships open

we brought in 7 this year because we NEED the depth right now!! theres really no other way to say it...

we lost rahshon, jiri, brister, vette, and cj this last year..thats 5 bodies we needed to fill...and without the help of isufan22's crystal ball, none of us know who is going to pan out, and who isnt...hence the number of scholly's..now if we can make it thru a season without transfers and players leaving, we wont need to do this again....

That makes zero sense. Why bring in Christopherson than? He can't play right now. Why bring in Pomlee? One of the big guys is going to redshirt and if it isn't him, than it is somebody else. We need depth at certain positions and some we don't.

If we make it through a year with no transfer's, than we only have one scholly to give next year. 2 the year after that!

I agree with you. I'd rather get some bigger names in 2009. However, the truth is they are great guys to have in practices. Hopefully they are good student athletes. And maybe, just maybe you might find a Wesley Johnson or a Jiri Hubalek.

And I'd take any bets that we will sign more than 1 guy for 2009.

Brister showed some promise. He just didn't have his head in the game. Don't give up on Boozer just yet. He's only been here one year and he showed some promise from the 3-point line. We've seen players make huge leaps before (Beechum, Shirley and Drake's Emenecker come to mind).

as far as christopherson goes..the only thing i can think of there is that he was too good to not take. i'll trust the coaches on this one...

as far as pomlee and the rest of the bigs go, without having depth, especially on the front line, how are u going to judge who u need to redshirt and who u dont....seems to me your really limiting your options if you dont have a backup plan or two....

depth never ever hurts a team...

I would agree that we will sign more than 1 guy in 09. But as of right now, that is all we got to offer. Makes recruiting tough. So what do we do? Do we wait for someone like CJ to transfer to open up another scholarship? Than all we have left to recruit is leftover players and we may as well keep the scholly on hold

The staff probably felt it would be next to impossible to sign two 4-star recruits during the Fall recruiting period coming off a 14-18 season. Now they can put all their effort into bring in one star player. We won't be able to have a Top 25 recruiting class again (I think Tim Floyd had our last one) until we have some success again on the national stage. I think this year's class gives us the chance to do that.

PG - Garrett and Buckley
SG - Petersen , Haluska and Boozer
Wing - Johnson and Staiger
PF - Brackins and Mann
C - Vanderbeken and Thompson

I think at least two of these three will redshirt: Eikmeier, Pomlee and Hamilton.

I really hope Lucca starts over any of the three you listed at SG.

There's no doubt that next year will be yet another rebuilding year BUT I feel like this class brings a lot of hope for the 09-10 squad. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Lucca will start at the 2. If Petey starts at the 2 we will really struggle

Petey was our best 3-point shooter last year at 38.4%. From what I've heard, Lucca can do much better than that and I hope he lives up to the hype. Meanwhile, we have a serviceable SG in Petersen. And he doesn't turn the ball over either which gives him an edge to start the season IMO.

Remember the 3-point line will be moved out another foot in 2008-09. I remember Petey being able to hit from NBA range. I don't remember Haluska hitting many long ones though.

If Lucca can't beat out Petey, we're in trouble.
