Thanks for making my point!! Click on his name and see if anybody besides us offered him! And it doesn't matter what scout and rivals have him rated. I am not ripping on Pomlee, rather stating he didn't receive any other offers.

Nice try though

When he missed on P'Allen and then lost both Taylor & Cmac late, he went after the best available bodies.

Neither Boozer nor Brister were known as good shooters or offensive threats. Brister had the ability to handle the ball while getting bumped and banged around in traffic. It was hoped that Boozer could match up to some of the physical wings in the Big XII.
I have followed ISU for much more than two years. I get Bristers signing. With Mcintosh leaving, we needed another PG, but I don't get Boozer.

Your reasoning doesn't make sense. He signed these players before Taylor was kicked off the team AND Stinnett doesn't have a big body.

Also, the only thing Boozer was known for was his shooting ability

i think that some people forget there is more to basketball than just game days. Not only do you need bodies on wednesdays and saturdays, but also all the practices. depth means more than just guys coming off the bench. You need guys in practice that can push people and compete for playing time. that is why i don't have a problem with 7 players coming in!!

Good job outta you. You used the same example everybody uses when someone signs to play for their school and gets no other scholarship offers.

Did you know that Justin Hamilton didn't play ball in his sophomore year in high school. He probably is the next MJ b/c he got cut from his team his sophomore year! Dumb I know, but you could use it for just about anybody if you wanted to.

Really though, I am not saying anything negative about Pomlee. Rather, I was telling somebody else that he did not get offered by any other BCS schools. I really wonder if the staff would have offered him if they would have known JVB was going to commit. I wonder this b/c why would they not have offered him sooner? They have had 3 years to watch him play

That is a good point and I can agree with that. We have had years in the past where our starters were our big guys were practicing against Clint Varley who is 6'4

if i had to make an educated guess, i would say grades might have had something to do with it...but since im not on the coaching staff, i have no idea....just makes sense to me that if your not sure your going to get target a, b, or c then you should prolly try to get target d.... jsut my opinion though...

and fwiw~ i get that your not trying to say u have anything against LA, but the argument you seem to b making is that u dont think he is D-1, BCS material... i get that

Re: Good news....but far from great!

I'm grateful and glad that we will have a team, that 'should' have good shooters, and be able to go to the basket as well.

That's all you can hope for. There are NO guarentees.
But, trust the experts, they deserve to get the credit when it works out, and the certainly get the blame when it doesn't.

Welcome and thanks to each and everyone of the new recruits, welcome to the ISU Family.

Judging a player based on whether any other BCS conference schools have made an official offer is ridiculous.

Re: Good news....but far from great!

I think he is a D1 talent. I don't think he is as athletic as most here would think he is. I have no problem that we signed Pomlee, just the fact that we did it so late. There is no question, he was our backup plan and IF the coaching staff had known that JVB would commit, than I am willing to bet they would not have offered Pomlee. I really hope he makes me eat my words and shows me why the staff offered him so late.

And last I heard, grades were not an issue with Pomlee anymore. I was told this after the Kansas game at Hilton.

Taylor was on suspension with 2 strikes against him when the late guys were signed.

How did the Boozer shooting myth get started? He shot 0 for 3 on his FT's & only 28% on 3's. He has never been known as a shooter/scorer. Thats why he was available late as his size was his main recruiting attraction.

Yes, it would have been better to land P'Allen with his scoring ability and tough, physical style of play. It didn't happen so McD & staff went to plan B. Boozer was a fall back recruit with a much different skill set. It was an attempt to fill another need on the team since there wasn't much to choose from in terms of scoring options at the time. It's up to Boozer to make the opportunity he was given pay off. He has to get better in the weight room and focus on improving his defense.

For the record, I have not said this. I was just replying to people who seem to think he is going to be good because Bo Ryan and Bobby Thuggins did. I replied that neither of these coaches offered him.

Can we wait to actually see him play in an Iowa State uniform before we decide we don't want him...

Re: Good news....but far from great!

If our recent history continues, even at a lesser rate than it has, we won't keep everyone we currently have and signed today through graduation.

So, you gotta get the players now rather than saying "Ok, we'll have this person and this person through 2011, so we don't need to do anything with that position".

I see the point about not bringing in so many guys each year, but I also feel confident that we'll lose a guy or two - we just seem to do that consistently (as do many other programs).

Well if you watched Brackins during a certain 5-7 game stretch you probably thought HE was a wasted scholly. I don't think 3 games is a large enough sample for a chatboard coach to make any real consequential predictions....
