Reasons to like him:
Cool initials.
Will likely never change his Facebook status to anything involving wanting to go home during Winter.
Has good size for his position.
Wants to be a Cyclone.
Rebounds well and blocks shots.
Can hit the three at a decent rate.
Reasons not to like him:
If he had ended up going to Iowa, maybe Steve Alford would still be coaching there.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.
So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

I wonder if this is what Vanderbeken meant in his interview about "ridiculous" fan support. Originally Posted by chengyushen Honestly, I am not impressed with him at all. He will be another Thompson as most, and I seriously doubt he will beat Thompson for minutes.
Although for some reason he participated the Juco all star game, he is not a juco all american 1st team. he is a second team, he is not a 3rd team. he is not EVEN an honorable mention!!!! In Rivals, he was only listed as 53nd best Juco.
I know some of you will say he fills a hole in the front for us next year, he will let others to play their natural role, etc. but that holds ONLY if he is a quality contributor, but I doubt he will be.
Some will say never to trust these recuiting gurus, but come on, are we better than them? Yes you can not say a 2nd best player is definitely better than a 5th best player, but in most cases, they donnot mistaken a 5th best player with a 53nd best juco player.
In cyclones recent history, both Vorman and Tim Barns were top 10 Jucos, Evans was a second team juco all american, so does Staples.
When was the last time in cyclone history that a top 50 juco player makes a impact? I don;t remember that we even recuited a top 50 juco in LE time. Althoug LE was considered a bad recuiter. |

I'm going to go out on a limb and trust the staff over an anonymous internet poster who hasn't seen him play.

By signing Vanderbeken...gives the team some depth in the frontcourt...Puts WJ back at his natural position...allows the staff to redshirt 2-3 players which helps balance the scholarships for the future...plus he was the best player at that position left in the spring...not many negatives about signing him.

One thing we needed last year was better rebounding and a shot blocking prescence, JVB is know for both of these.

Sorry Yao, but since when did the East start critiquing Western players?

If he can come in and rebound and defend well, it will be a good signing. We need role players to stay down low and allow Brackins and WJ to play their natural positions. We aren't going to have "elite" players at every position.

Weak.
Do you realize that your post contains an error in grammar?
Do you forget that this is an internet message board, and that many other posts are far more incomprehensible than the OP? Your decision to respond to this poster's mistake, with his presumably Asian handle, and yet pass on other posters' more problematic mistakes is revealing.

Eh, you may be right that people have been singling this one out, but at least for me I was more critical because of his opinion rather than his "English". I tend to be more critical of people that are exceptionally critical of others (especially without knowing anything about them like this situation).
There are two types of people I cannot stand...those that aren't tolerant of other cultures....and.....THE DUTCH |

Please. Your post is also "revealing." You like to bring about problems and try to cause problems when there are none there. Why don't you be judgmental on your own and not jump to conclusions and make accusations publicly.
As far as this thread goes, it is ridiculous.
