Re: Dwight Buycks

If we hire Daniyal Robinson, I think we would really have a great shot at him, since he played at IHCC not too long ago.

We can't just throw scholarships around. We don't have a lot of them to offer. I'm not saying he's not worthy but we have to be very careful about who gets offers and how they fit the team. Another guard isn't a priority since we really need to sign a wing.

Re: Dwight Buycks

i will leave it up to the coaches to decide, since they know more than all CFs combined. Besides, their jobs are on the line, ours aren't.

I'm pretty sure that Buycks now has an offer.

Staff is pretty serious about Buycks...Sounds like we have a good shot...Hopefully, we don't end up as the first loser again.

I'm thinking we will leave the wing slot open for Harrison (2010). Make it as enticing as possible for him to come to ISU. Meanwhile, Lucca can fill that role in 2008 and 2009.

I hope we don't save the wing open just for Barnes. It may be open when he gets here but I doubt/hope it isn't intentional.

Here's a video of him, scroll down on the page. It also has a Scott Christopherson video. Click on Courtside Closeup, and scroll about halfway down for Buycks video.
Wisconsin High School Basketball - Boys / Youth Basketball - Boys

After watching Buycks, Christopherson and Garrett's highlights....

Christopherson is a great shooter, and ball handler. He definately can get to the hoop if he needs to. I can understand why there is not a lot of hype on this kid, but there definately will be in 09'-10'.

Garrett will get to the basket and create. Buckley and him have good size (height) and quickness to take anyone to the bucket, especially when we start spreading the floor.

Buycks probably doesn't excell at shooting like Christopherson, or penetrating like Garrett. But, he still does both VERY well. Maybe a better "all around" player offensively than both?

I like the video I've seen on Buycks. I would really like having another "scorer" similar to Mike T at the off guard position.

Hopefully his friendship with DG pays off.

After WJ's departure, we may not have a choice. If you want to leave a scholarship open for 2010, we really only have one scholarship to give in 2009. Do you want to give that to a wing if you're bringing in Harrison in 2010? We're already "stuck" with Lucca playing the wing in 2008. I say stuck because I can't think of a better word. I do think we will be fine with Lucca. What he lacks in athleticism, he can make up for with his shooting ability. Look at Floyd's best lineup. They didn't have a protype wing player either and yet they won 25 games.

PG - Holloway
SG - Willoughby
SF - Bankhead
PF - Pratt
C - Cato

I'm hoping that Lucca can do everything that Bankhead did - plus shoot better.

I'm hoping Lucca can do better than Bankhead on the offensive end, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if he is as good as Bankhead was on D. Bankhead really disrupted on defense.

willoughby and cato were both good enough to go to the nba, and the team now has a couple guys with the potential, but they arent a willouby yet,

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Re: Dwight Buycks

My understanding is that he would be more of a go-to-scorer and wing player than a PG in any stretch. He has amazing skills and all the top schools are looking at him. If he had the grades out of HS, he would probably already be at Iowa State, if his connections to the program are any indication. I would certainly place him towards the top of our list but there are quite a few marquee players that we're hanging with right now. I think you have to look at his ability from day one if he were to go to ISU and realize that he would probably compete for a starting role right away.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
