Credits: 13,064 | 08-09 Roster & Depth Chart? So, here's who we have for next year - a lot of youth.
What do you think the depth chart will look like? Seems to be a lot of talent so minutes might be spread out. Cyclones Add Three In Late Signing Period - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports New Guys:
Dominque Buckley, Guard - Freshman, 6'2/190
Scott Christoperson, Guard - Sophomore (T), 6'3/200
Wes Elkmeier, Guard - Freshman, 6'3/175
Justin Hamilton, Center - Freshmen, 6'11/220
Clinton Mann, Forward - Freshman, 6'7/220
LA Pomlee, Forward - Freshman, 6'8/230
Jamie Vanderbeken, Forward - Junior (T), 6'11/240 Returning Players:
Charles Boozer, G
Cameron Lee, G
Sean Haluska, G
Wesley Johnson, F
Lucca Staiger, G
Diante Garrett, G
Alex Thompson, F
Craig Brackins, F
Bryan Peterson, G I think Depth Charts might look something like this:
PG - Bryan Peterson/Dominque Buckley/Diante Garrett/Cameron Lee
SG - Lucca Staiger/Diante Garrett/Wes Elkmeier/Charles Boozer
SF - Wes Johnson/Lucca Staiger/Sean Haluska
PF - Craig Brackins/LA Pomlee/Clinton Mann
C - Alex Thompson/Justin Hamilton/Jamie Vanderbeken
I think that Cameron Lee, Sean Haluska and Charles Boozer will not see the court as much this year. Buckley and the new big men should make an immediate impact. Staiger will finally be playing and should keep defenses honest and free up the big guys in the middle with his accurate shooting and Elkmeier can fill the same role too. I'm looking for Wesley to have a big year and to see Craig continue to develop as his builds confidence and consistency.
Overall, I have a pretty positive outlook for the season. |

PG - Dominique Buckely/Diante Garret
SG - Lucca Staiger/Diante Garret
SF - Wes Johnson/Lucca Staiger
PF - Craig Brackins/L.A. Pomlee
C - Jamie Vanderbeken/Alex Thompson
JVB gets the nod at center because he can strech defenses and i just dont thing that bryan petersen can play in the big 12 and be effective. Buckley is the future, but that PG spot will be a really tight race with him and DG

There are not a lot of freshman that can do that. Brackins was one of the best players in the country and he struggled.
I think Garrett really improves. Lucca should be good to go. Johnson will hopefully stay healthy. That is the key. Vanderbeeken will play, but he doesn't know any of the offense and has no experience. Now by the end of the season that could all change.
1. Garrett
2. Lucca
3. Wes J
4. Thompson
5. Brackins
I am thinkin out of Hamilton, Mann and Pomlee one of those guys gets a RS.
Not sure what is going on with Boozer. He has a great shot and a great basketball body. I can't seem to figure out why he doesn't get minutes. There has to be something going on. They should of redshirted him also.

PG- Garrett/Buckley/Lee
SG- Staiger/Peterson/Boozer
SF- Johnson/Haluska/Eikmeier
PF- Vanderbeken/Thompson/Mann
C- Brackins/Hamilton/Pomlee
Best lineup I foresee that I would like to see
PG-Buckley/Peterson
SG-Garrett/Haluska
SF-Johnson/Staiger
PF-Vanderbeken/Johnson
C-Brackins/Thompson
this would be the main lineup and would be the main nine people we use with Cameran Lee seeing a decent amount of playing time and Hamilton and Boozer playing on occasion. Mann/Pomlee/Eikmeier redshirted. |

Buckley is the future, but that PG spot will be a really tight race with him and DG This is true, BUT....There is something to be said about experience and knowing the system. With that line up you have 3 guys starting that have never seen any action before. 2 of them are new guys that don't know the offense and one of them is running it at point guard. I think your line up might be accurate later on in the season, but probably not right at first. But who knows.
I see a lot of potential in Garrett which has been in the system for a year already. buckley would need to be one heck of a player to come in and steal the starting role over garrett and Pete as a true freshman. I am learning to not expect anything from freshmen. |

I'd throw either Petey or Eik in at one of the guard spots just to get 10 players for a 2-deep on paper.
How this all sorts out to begin with will be determined on the practice court in State Gym. How it ends up will be determined by what happens on the court at Hilton and the visiting arenas. |

I agree with this. You could flip flop Buckley or Diante and it would be fine with me. |

Credits: 118,252 | Re: 08-09 Roster & Depth Chart? I've penciled them in this way to start the season using a restriction of 1 position per player (even though we'll likely see a 8-9 man rotation with a few guys swinging positions by the big 12 season)...
Garrett/Buckley/Peterson/Lee
Steiger/Eikmeier/Boozer
Wes Johnson/Haluska/Sed Johnson
Brackins/Mann/Pomlee
Thompson/Vanderbeken/Hamilton
I'm expecting big things from Garrett and Brackins, they showed a lot of potential as freshmen. Steiger's backup is a major toss up. Could see Garrett, Peterson, Haluska, Boozer or Eikmeier playing there. Thompson vs. Vanderbeken is also a tough call for the start of the season. I could see Mann backing up Johnson also, and/or Pomlee/Hamilton breaking into the rotation inside in place of Mann. Hopefully we won't see much of Wes' backup this year.
Will be interesting to see Cap City again this year to gauge the new guys (assuming they are here by then).

PG - Diante 15 min; Buckley 20 min; Petey 5 min
SG - Lucca 10 min; Diante 10 min; Haluska 10 min; Eik or Petey 10 min
SF - Wesley 30 min; Lucca 10 min
PF - Brackins 30 min; Pomlee/Mann/Hamilton 6 min; Wesley a few minutes when we go small
Bigger PF - Thompson 18 min; VDB 18 min; Brackins a few min
I'm thinking we'll see Mann, Hamilton, or Pomlee redshirt, quite possibly two of the three. I heard Greg made some kind of comment about Pomlee helping us next year, but I think he'll want to wait and see which of those three is the most ready to start playing as a freshman, and I'm far from convinced that it is Pomlee.
With Sean's emergence as more of an offensive threat towards the end of the year, I also wouldn't be too surprised to see Eik redshirt. We have 4 guys (5 if Boozer improves) who can play the 2 spot right now, so body wise we won't need him. I'm kind of hoping he comes in and proves that he can play with the big boys right away, but I realize that's a bit optimistic.

With this lineup you don't have to substitute position, because everyone can play 2 different spots. I think Haluska will continue to get good minutes, but I don't think Petey will play as big of a roll. |

I have nothing against Thompson, but I have a hard time believing he would start for any BCS conference team - including ISU. |
