I don't think that its necessarily the kids, rather the traveling.
Also, I can't imagine it would be possible to coach AAU ball and college basketball at the same time. There has to be some NCAA regulation about that.

It would seem possible that he could retain ownership of the business, while still observing the NCAA regulations. It may be, however, that to avoid any perception of impropriety, he would choose to sell.

He has the name recognition to recruit. Not only from his days playing for ISU, but also from his prominence in AAU circles. And then there is Harrison Barnes.
The most important recruit in recent years, Harrison Barnes, is currently a pupil. Our chances of getting Barnes would have to be better with Jake on the staff.
Make it Jake! I would have to disagree. He does not have name recognition outside of Iowa and MN. Not really a great recruiting background. Some coaching at AAU level but I would like to see some NCAA coaching with National exposure.
Just because he was a decent player for ISU doesn't mean it translates in to the best for coaching. It's like saying your best engineer makes the best manager. Two different skill sets.

He would be great.

Pure speculation but if he did choose to sell it, I would guess either Todd Miller (former punt returner at ISU) or Lefty Moore (former ISU b-baller) would be interested. Both currently work for the Attack.
I'm pretty sure that everything was financed by the guy that owns the Jensen property around town, though.

But you have to take a look at what he's done at Attack and it is impressive. He is a great coach. He can recruit and he can give ISU an immediate advantage in recruiting a top prospect.

Not that it matters, but GMac is going to need to hire a minority coach. You don't want an all-white basketball staff. That just does not look good.

It would be tough for McDermott to bring in a former player. You don't want the fan focus on the assistants before the head coach. One or two bad years the fan base will be grumbling to let you go and promote the well liked assistant. Although I would love Grayer to come back I just don't see how Greg could do it.

I'm doubt Wayne would ever return like that. But I would definitely take him back in that roll. Wayne was a great recruiter, he just couldnt' coach the talent he brought in.

There are some coaches that make "charitable donations" to AAU programs and that is even frowned upon. Regardless, he won't be the next coach so it really doesn't make a difference. Not that it matters, but GMac is going to need to hire a minority coach. You don't want an all-white basketball staff. That just does not look good. Agree here, but I do think it's important. I hope they go for somebody from one of the coasts with some more recruiting contacts outside of the midwest. One of the things about the assistant coaches to me is that they need to be able to relate to the players, and we need to have somebody that can relate to the minority kids on the team.

i think gmac already has some names in mind.. but i think we should be looking at coaches that have had headcoaching expierence and try to bring somone like that in..
| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

I was looking at cyclonereport.com b-ball commitment lists in the last couple years, and according to page 2 of those Marcus Brister was the only recruit of his.

It won't be Jake Sullivan. Did anyone see him during the 100 yrs celebration? He was on the outside looking in as far as the former players/coaches, etc. goes. A lot of the Cyclone BB Alumni & current coaches don't care for him.
