Credits: 474,998 | Coach Prioleau/Barnes He has a great opportunity in Texas. He would live in Texas if he had his choice in life and moving around in basketball were not required; he loves it there. And he believes he has a great chance at TCU, if they turn things around, to become a head coach sooner than later. He is also 38 years old, no 28. These things matter.
As it relates to Barnes, I have been told from very, very solid sources that his recruitment has been a total staff/team effort. Without question. ISU still feels very good about their recruitment of Barnes, and where they stand with him.
Based on the conversations I have had today with some folks that have more knowledge of the situation than anyone else, we have a coach taking an opportunity that was too good to pass up, and an entire staff effort when it comes to recruiting Barnes |

In a way I'm glad Prioleau is going somewhere like TCU - no worries about Barnes going down there I wouldn't think. If he was somewhere else and they are as tight as people say, it could work against us.

Action speaks louder than any words - Prioleau obviously thinks that aligning himself with that program will accelerate his chances to become a head coach...in other words, he thinks they'll win sooner. |

As for the recruiting of Barnes, I hope the staff knows what it's doing here. This will be a delicate situation and hopefully turn out for the best! |

But it's a better opportunity to show his mettle as being a future head coach, than just being a strong recruiter.
That's no slight or slap at anyone...it's just the way that it is. He can be the #1 assistant at TCU. |

He probably thinks he has a greater chance to move into a head coaching spot THERE. Not that he thinks they'll win sooner.

2) I think it's funny that people don't see this as a good opportunity for JP. |

Now we know it has always been an entire staff effort with his recruitment, so I'm fine with it. Congratulations to Coach Prioleau. |

There is only one explanation for JP to see this as a great opportunity - to work with, and win with, new coach Jim Christian, who did wonders at Kent State. Assistant coaches from winning programs get the head coaching jobs, regardless of their "rank" on the staff.
Phelps wasn't even Sendek's #1 assistant, but he got the Drake job because ASU is now winning. |
