Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

Nice interview and he had good things to say about the differences between his first few years in Ames and what Greg McDermott has had to deal with. He had a lot of good things to say about Greg.

I don't get the rock-star welcome treatment for Tim Floyd when he stops in Ames - he's likely recruiting Barnes, so how does that jibe with his support of GMac? That's also counterintuitive to his claim that all the players he needs are right around LA...

Well there you have it, straight from Floyd's mouth! Talent level is down, McDermott won't have the success he Floyd have in his first two years. Floyd may be recruiting Barnes, but that's to be expected. What are we supposed to do, scowl at him when he walks off the plane? He did devote several years of his coaching career to Iowa State and did well while he was here. I have no grudge.

The interview said he was in town for the coaching clinic. Does anyone have any evidence Barnes and Floyd have a mutual interest?

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

the rock star welcome is because of the man tim floyd is. hes a class act all the way a tremendous coach and should be a good friend to the cyclone family. i became a floyd fan this first year he put on a father son basketball camp here at ISU he showed his passion for the game and his passion for life and making those around him have a good time, since then i have had a couple dinners with him at my uncles place and it has always been a treat. i wish him the best of luck where ever he goes and if i could pick a place for recruits to go other than ISU it would be to which ever school Tim is coaching.

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

I've never met Floyd but he seems like a class act and I am happy that he coached at ISU even if it was a "brief" tenure. I remember reading all of the rumors of Floyd going to the Bulls and lost some respect for Jordan for not giving Floyd a chance. Referring to the new coach as "Pink" by the star player didn't seem right. Kind of funny, but not very right.

Personally, I think it is cool that he still keeps up on how ISU is doing and had good things to say about McDermott. Using the ISU game footage to research a Tourney game, well, in my book, says something.

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

McD didnt walk into Ames with the kinda talent that Floyd did. Orr left him pretty well stocked. LE and Wayne didnt happen to do the same for McD. Its hard for any coach to rebuild a program after the turmoil and player turnover that happened at ISU in a 3 year stint.

It's because Ames is a small town and one of the biggest things going on is ISU athletics...all current and former coaches of the primary athletic teams at ISU get similar treatment.

Yes, it says ISU played the team they were facing in the NCAA Tourney earlier in the year! I'll venture that the USC staff saw tape on every conference game K-State played.

I have met Floyd one time in a restaurant on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain...he seemed like a pretty decent guy. However, I do believe his coaching abilities are a little over-rated by the typical ISU fan.

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

I would agree that his overall coaching abilities are slightly overrated. What TF has is the ability to make a team believe they can win and he is not afraid to try something different to give his team a chance to win. He will try a box and 1, tri and 2, take the air out of the ball, or pick up the pace. I think he learned alot after he left ISU and is actually a much better coach after is fiasco with the Bulls.

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

I agree Floyd is a much better coach now than he was at ISU. He's learned that every possession can't be about him being in control - that he can win close games on a few possessions. However, for me to believe he's truly arrived as a coach, he needs to win a major conference championship.

Re: Tim Floyd Interviewed on Channel 5

The expectations are getting higher for Floyd at USC, and yet their fan support is nowhere near that of Iowa State. I wouldn't bet the farm on him winning the Pac-10, especially now with Mike Montgomery back in the conference. He is one tremendous coach, better than Floyd.
And, the last time I watched USC play, Floyd's Trojans were pummeled by Frank Martin and K-State...
