Wesley's Ankle Was Broken all season

ISU basketball: Doctor finds Johnson had stress fracture entire season | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

An MRI exam revealed the fracture April 25. A battery of previous tests had not discovered the fracture because a bone bruise in Johnson's ankle hadn't allowed a clean read.

Re: Wesley's Ankle Broken all season

That explains a lot. He took a lot of threes probably because he couldn't beat anyone off the dribble with that first step.

I know it's my optimism coming through, but next year could be very special with him healthy and at his natural position, Brackins improved, and Lucca on the floor.

Re: Wesley's Ankle Broken all season

Makes me wonder if he doesn't resent the medical staff for missing the injury/Coach Mac for making him play anyway. (Or maybe he was pushing the coaches to be out on the floor).

Wonder if he'll skip the Cap City League this summer? (Only makes sense)

Players want to play. I don't know if you remember but when Mac brought up the redshirt possibility Wesley didn't want any of it.

Re: Wesley's Ankle Broken all season

Now is there any question about Wesley being "way overrated this season, not at all like Scottie Pippen" and "Wesley looks like a low-end Big 12 player" Actual quotes from the season....just shows you how bandwagon some fans are.

To be fair, no one knew (not even Wes) how bad the injury actually was.

That redshirt would have looked pretty good right about now.

Re: Wesley's Ankle Broken all season

Ok, maybe it's just me, but you need to be more specific in the title of your thread. When I first read it I freaked out that somehow his ankle was already broken for next season. I know it's only May, but it could happen, we're Cyclones.

This is good news. They found the problem and it looks like a simple fix.

Incredible, toughness is not even a good enough word to describe Wesley. Let's hope for a full recovery and hopefully we will see a soaring Wesley when the season starts next November.

Re: Wesley's Ankle Broken all season

Makes me wonder how good the medical staff diagnoses problems. We all could see he had problems. Few rebounds, no blowby dribbling. So months later, we figure it out? Hmm. Might not make our athletes feel comfortable....

Agreed on both accounts. Healthy or not - Wes is a pretty damn good player who desperately needs to improve upon his defense.

This isn't the first time it's happened either. My junior year we had a guy hurt his wrist. The doctors here said it was just tendinitis and not to worry, take some Vioxx... Luckily his dad was a doctor in Denver and when he went home took a look. Turned out he tore just about every ligament in his wrist.
