The worst he can do is quit the team which would not even be a noticeable loss.
I'm not sure how Freeman would fit in with our team, but more depth in the form of an experienced senior and pretty solid outside shooter is never a bad thing. And it'd be fun to watch him stick it to Iowa on the court in 2010. I think Thomson plays with a lot of hustle and he's maybe the best defender on the team. His problem is he seems to throw up rocks all season on the offensive end. We need his wingspan and maturity this year.
I just don't see Freeman coming to Ames. He'll have to sit out a year and then he's only in town for one season. Yeah he'd add some offense, but we've got some good guards coming in now.

Freeman deserves better than that slime ball.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
Why does it seem everytime a player leaves Iowa there is a story about ISU wanting him. He will have a hard time getting a scholorship, since he has 1 year left to play and has to sit a year. He is going to have to walk on where ever he goes I bet. He may have got screwed in this whole deal, bet player on the team, Chris Street award winner more than once and he gets asked to leave. Any player that gave his all to a school for 3 years should not be treated this way.

Rutter: Well let us know if you change your mind.
Freeman: Will do. I would be shocked if the conversation was any different than this while Maymon, Williams, Wilcox, et all are still on the board. I can't see them tying up a scholarship for 2 years when those guys are available.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
ISU doesn't need him with the backcourt that appears to be shaping up. He'd ride more pine in Ames than he would have in IC. And he certainly wouldn't be a captain, which is his big gripe and reason for leaving UI. And I personally don't really want to hear the acrimony that will be generated if he were to come to ISU. It's boring.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
He won't be at ISU unless we have a rash of defections in the next month or he is willing to arrive as a walkon.

Freeman is in a tough spot with just one to play and needing to sit out one should he go to another Division I school. His best chance may be going somewhere as a walk-on and ISU knows that.
Freeman would be a significant upgrade over any of the other walk-ons we've had.
Having said that, I'd put the chances of him coming to ISU at less than 10%.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
Regarding Alex Thompson's work ethic - I thought there was a few games where his defense, rebounding and all around hustle off the bench made the difference. What he contributes on the offensive end is a different story though.

Obiouvsly one of the biggest reasons would be it's "good" fodder for local sports talk, especially during a time when there's not much to talk about.
And of course, for personal continuity, it would behove Freeman to take a peek at ISU. And if Freeman is open to walking on, it wouldn't hurt ISU to do the same.
Clearly a call happened between the two parties, so it does not seem that something is being made of nothing here, unlike other similar situations it in the past.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle just to have Freeman for 1 year. Hopefully by that time our own guards will have developed that we wouldn't need him. If he were eligible to play right away then it would make sense but 2 years from now it doesn't.
I think his best shot would be find a lower division school to play at and just finish his career out. He's not going to be going to the NBA and any major program is probably not too interested in having to wait a year just to have him for 1 season.

Re: DMRegister: ISU interested in Freeman
So if he were to transfer to another D1 school and walk-on, would he be eligible to play right away? He wouldn't have to sit out because he is a walk-on? And if that were the case, would he be eligible for a scholarship in the second season at the new school?
As you can tell, I am pretty clueless when it comes to transfer rules. If anyone could clear up my confusion, I would greatly appreciate it.
