I don't see Garrett shifting over to the two-guard spot until he proves he can hit the 3-pointer in games that count. I do think Garrett will be our starting PG to begin the season. If he shows a significantly improved outside shot, then he might shift to two-guard and allow Buckley to start. If he doesn't improve, then he stays a PG for possibly the rest of his career (either as the starter or as a backup to Buckley).

Re: Official summer boredom lineup thread.
I have no idea how it will shake out but this is the starting line-up I would like to see: 1 - Point Guard – Diante Garrett 2 - Shooting Guard – Lucca Staiger 3 - Small Forward – Wesley Johnson 4- Power Forward – Craig Brackins 5- Center – Alex Thompson -

I know we haven't seen Lucca play, but from all accounts, he is just what we need: shooter, big body, ballhandler.
We're probably looking at a 17 win season or so, but I think it will be much more "fun" than last season.
You mean to say last season wasn't "fun"?? -

Second string would be Buckley, Peterson, Haluska, Mann, JVB. IMO Pomlee, Hamilton and Eikmeier all redshirt. Lee and Boozer clean up minutes on the perimeter.
I think that this team looks like it can do some damage offensively. I'd be worried about them stopping people, though.

People want to see Thompson in the starting lineup? Honestly I'm shocked.

I guess they haven't seen Vanderbeken in an ISU uniform yet - so they're going with Thompson by default. Other than the game against Oregon State, Thompson hasn't done anything yet to warrant a start. Nothing wrong with that. Teams need reliable backups, and AT plays good enough defense to be a reliable backup.

Wilt Chamberlain Model Z-14
Michael Jordan Model L-145
Klaatu Jr.
The Blob
Hurl Beecham XXVII LOL - I am not sure what this has to do with the original post but it is creative. -

Last night, Mac said he expects L. A. to contribute immediately, so he won't redshirt unless something changes.

Re: Official summer boredom lineup thread.
Just to create a buzz for summer:
Predicted first game starters:
CB
AT
DG
WJ
Free Lucca
I do not think the newcomers will start in the first game, except for Lucca. By start of Big 12, that will probably change..
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Haluska This seems like the best setup to me. I like that the team looks like it could be pretty versatile, which shows that the program is developing in quality and depth.
If Pomlee and Mann can put in some quality time, and maybe Eik can put some nice shooting in there, I'd love to see a team with that sort of depth.
Of course, I need to make the mandatory point that we haven't seen these newcomers play yet -
Re: Official summer boredom lineup thread.
I think that if DG can shoot and play like he did against Buckley in high school, they MIGHT be able to play him at the 2 more. Diante Garrett - Brightcove
Video has some of DG vs DB in high school (might be posted somewhere else too, not sure)

Re: Official summer boredom lineup thread.
Many of the critiques against Dante' last season was that he had a tendency to put his head down and drive - worked in HS but not in the B12. I just watched the clip posted above - and that is what he did in the clips, but got away with it. I am a HUGE Garrett fan. We're going to need the team to give him outlets on the drives he makes, and we're going to need him to bulk up and get stronger next season. As many reservations as I have with McD and the philosophy, I really believe that DG can become a premier player. Hopefully DB can add another dimension and Lucca and Ek can provide a real 3-point threat.

Re: Official summer boredom lineup thread.
Here's who I would start:
Garrett
Staiger
Johnson
Brackins
Notorious VDB
I feel, though, that Petey could get the nod at PG to start the season.
