Disappointed

I'm not angry about this, and I never was, either at Wesley or any of the coaches. What really concerns me about this whole Wesley thing is that it is apparent to me that by transferring to Kentucky, he is saying that even though this whole team is being built around him and he was called the face of the program by the head coach, he didn't believe that this staff and school could get him where he wanted to be. I think this is what I will ultimately remember about this and what will really negatively impact recruiting in the future.

I feel no anger over the situation. Only a sense of disappointment which has been all too frequent over the last few years.

Re: Disappointed

Good post. I think something that should be brought up unless it already has and if it has I'm sorry but why would anybody want to continue to purchase season tickets or even tickets to a game just to watch players that are going to leave us or watch a team that will finish .500 AT BEST? I think Wesley leaving is a major blow to the entire mens basketball program in every single aspect. I know if I was a season ticket holder I would be thinking long and hard about if I wanted to continue to purchase basketball season tickets and why would I want to donate money to a program that is going no where pretty fast? I'm interested to hear what Pollard has to say about the situation.

Re: Disappointed

Questions have to be asked of both parties on Wes leaving. I bet it is not a one sided deal. Why did he handle this the way he did? If the Kentucky rumors are true, it is a little quick to pick a new home, isnt it? Look around the country good coaches are hard on their players, expecally the good ones and expect a lot out of them. Winning does cure a lot of things. What was said to Wes by his people after he left Ames, to get to this point? Everything from said from any party up to today had Wes being the man at ISU next year. I wish him luck, I wish he would have handled it different, and wonder what the REAL story is.

I think McD takes a hit on this one, from how long he gets to get the job done. He may have to make big improvements next year (NCAA tourny) to stay off the hot seat in year 4 (until today year 5 was the hot seat year)

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

I wonder what wes would think if he read this message board

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Re: Disappointed

I agree - It is a huge blow to the staff because of what it means on the court (losing your best player), off the court (the negative recruiting on ISU just got a lot easier) and this only further demoralizes an already beaten down fanbase.

I'll have season tickets again next season and I increased my donation not for football but just in the hope I could move up a few rows in basketball. I love the coaches. I loved watching Wesley play. I was really starting to talk myself into thinking that we might have a shot at the NCAA's next season. I hope that even though there is a lot of venom being thrown around on the board right now it's only because we as fans care so much about the success of the team and the success of the players on our team.

The way he left, why he left, is of no consequence to me. The only fact that concerns me is that he is gone and what this means to the future of the program and what it means to the coaching staff. I question them, but I question everything in my life, and if I think about it and post about it this much because it's something I'm passionate about. I wish them the very best and I hope the team as a unit can come together in the face of this adversity with an us against the world mentality.

I hope he would think he made a huge mistake and will man up to his mistakes. This is a lesson that he will learn and I actually do hope he reads this board because it would hopefully knock some sense into him. I want to know the real reason he left and I want to know from him.

Re: Disappointed

I'm sorry, I just wanted a thread that was talking about the future of the program and not skewering Wesley. There was a point to starting a new one.

Re: Disappointed

I think the transfer sends a message to other recruits about this coaching staff. My gut feeling barring major improvement next year is Harrison Barnes is as good as gone.

Re: Disappointed

We are seeing the effects of having 2 bad seasons from a head coach which really excited the fanbase. We all heard Mac say that this wasn't going to be built overnight but unfortunately with the blows the program has taken, he may not get a "fair" shot at righting the ship. (When I say fair, I mean coaching his players. But ultimately he is responsible for keeping his players.)

I doubt he cares enough to read this message board. He's moved on.

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.
