Wesley also said that he hadn't yet received calls from any other colleges. He said he'd select the next school based on better compatibility with the head coach. So when Wesley was telling the coach he was unhappy, coach says he doesn't understand? So that's the end, Wesley doesn't try to explain himself better? Seems like he, too, was a poor communicator. When somebody says they don't understand, don't you try to help them to understand or do you just leave and go to another school?
I know in elementary you are supposed to say, "I feel.... when you... because..."
I hope Wesley can work on his "I feel" statements for his next step in his basketball career. I would hate for his feelings to be hurt and in the process his basketball skills too....

No, it sounds like it was Mac who wasn't explaining. He was putting it back on Wes saying that the reason he wasn't happy was because he didn't understand what was going on...

Maybe he just needed a hug. Man, I'm glad I'm not a head coach these days, too much coddling required.
Maybe this is a reflection of our societies obsession with pushing children in sports at a very young age. One of my friends has a young daughter in softball. Many weekends they start playing at 6:45 am on Sunday morning and they may play until well into the afternoon.

Was he mad about his ankle's mis-diagnosis? I just don't understand what the "problem" was? How do you deal with someone who won't explain what's wrong? There's been a lot of talk but no real reason, just seems odd to me.
"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

Personally, I'm going to take the word of the staff over a player who didn't have the balls to tell his team and the coaching staff that he was leaving.

Re: Omaha World Herald on WJ
The World Herald article also talked about Wesley's position change for the coming season and that he was expected to play small forward. Quoting Wesley," That's where our relationship came in; I didn't feel like I was able to just go out there and play my game."

The player trying to run the show as opposed to buying into the coaching. Definitely not a team player type mentality. If that is the case we will better off without him.

Wesley seems to have problems communicating his feelings. At least with Tony Freeman, I could understand what he was trying to say.
Hard to blame Coach McDermott for this one. He's one of the better communicators I've seen in college basketball. He earned his position the hard way and has faced tremendous challenges in his life. Time for everyone to move on.

Jiri could have said the exact same thing, but didn't and benefited from staying...to each his own, I guess.
