Global cooling, definitely.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

Re: What story is closer to reality?

As has been said, somewhere in the middle. I find it impossible to believe that McDermott didn't have a single inkling. I also find it impossible to predict he wouldn't be back considering he just signed his scholarship agreement, renewed his lease, etc.

Is there a middle road option?

Nope...just want to know what you think is closer to reality. Clearly, I understand that reality is somewhere in the middle ground...but which story is closer to reality.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Since there is no middle ground - simply based on the fact that Wes signed his lease and scholly papers, I think Greg's story is closer.

Why did he sign his papers if he was planning to transfer? WJ's story doesn't add up.

The papers are a formality and mean nothing in this discussion.

I don't buy that at all - nope.

If he knew he was leaving, he would not have put ink on those papers.

Obviously, I don't know anything first hand about the WJ situation.

However, I, like I assume many of you, have had to make difficult, heart wrenching decisions that have impacted my life. They are typically not easy to make and you tend to have a lot of dissonance as you are working through your decision making process...especially if it is not a clear cut situation (which is often the case in life).

I do not find it too terribly unbelievable that he may have been going back and forth about this for some time with no firm decision (maybe even as he signed these vaunted "papers"). At some point he made his mind up and because he didn't want to deal with his teammates trying to talk him out of it or possibly with his coach trying to talk him out of it (or, dare I say, possibly trying to bully him into staying) he decided to "get out of Dodge" as they say.

At the end of the day he is, what, 19 -21 years old. Most of you are totally willing to lay this all on his doorstep and give another "pass" to the coach who happens to be a well paid adult in his mid 40s. I just don't get it.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

What I have to wonder is if WJ was just pissed at the coaching staff and the medical staff after telling him all year he had a bone bruise and to fight through the pain, when he actually had a broken foot. I can see how that might make a guy mad enough to find another place to play.

Not the case...

Johnson: Relationship with McDermott led to transfer decision | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

On Monday, Craig Carroll, Johnson’s brother, said Iowa State’s handling of Johnson’s foot injury last season was another factor behind his decision to leave. Johnson said today that wasn’t accurate.

Johnson suffered what was thought to be a bone bruise in his left ankle during preseason practice.

He went on to miss five games and was limited in what he could do because of the injury. Numerous MRIs and CAT scans of the ankle showed nothing, but the X-rays were cloudy because of bleeding inside Johnson’s foot.

Johnson even went to Michigan, where Carroll lives, over spring break and had the injury looked at there. No fracture was discovered.

An MRI in Ames on April 25 found a stress fracture in Johnson’s foot. He had surgery April 30 and was to start rehabilitation work in Ames Monday.

“I understand totally why they couldn’t find it,’’ Johnson said of the stress fracture. “You know how parents are. They get overexcited about stuff when they see their baby out there hurting. They just wanted to know why.’’

Re: What story is closer to reality?

I can honestly tell you people that are posting the responses about Wes being a coward for leaving the team; you have no idea. Greg McDermott is the coward. He treated Wes the worst on the team. There's a major difference between an in-your-face type of coach and a coach that degrades you and makes it personal. And by all accounts (inside info) Greg McDermott is the most two-faced person we've had in our program. The players do not like him. He tells them everything they want to hear in person and bashes them behind their back. He was an emotional hire and a bad one at that. I love to read the comments by people who have no idea about what really happens behind the scenes. Ignorance is the best word for it........WOW!!!

Great first post.

I could create another profile here and come up with some stuff to trash Wesley too. That's the beauty of the internet. Sad fact is, there are some people gullible enough to believe both of us - regardless of what we said. Another "beauty" of the internet.
