Life after Wes
There must have been big problems on both sides and maybe the blame should go both ways. At some point you have to look at the program as a whole and ask why does this happen at ISU. Since the day coach Orr left ISU players have came and left on a regular basis. Under Coach Floyd and LE it was ok and over looked since the teams were winning. Under Morgan and McD the winning has slowed and questions are now being asked 10 years too late.
I was shocked when I heard the news about Wes. It is his right to do as he wants but the way he handled it was very wrong. Player wise yesterday was one of the worse days in the history of ISU basketball. Other bad days include, the robbery of a Buger King, MF leaving earily, and Will B leaving earily.
For Wes to leave this way means he thinks he got treated very bad. He was and was going to be the face of this program, the player everything is and was built around. He could have been a star in the Big 12, playing aginst the best at his position, playing in a conference that had 2 lottery draft picks playing a similar position in the years he was here. He could have filled a go to roll that are few and far between. When he got this team back to the NCAA tournment he could have been that suprise guy that took his team deep, the guy that brought ISU basketball back, the guy that was the darling of the tourny. Now he has to start over in a new program, putting the NBA off a year. Not knowing if he will fit in or play the same roll on his next team. He is leaving his friends and teammates behind for the unknown. Maybe he wasnt ready for the pressure or the spotlight and couldnt handle all that.
For coach McD it is a time to look deep and see what he did and is doing wrong and change it now. Coaches can change and it seems he may have to change a bit or he maybe changing his address in a few years. The coach player reltionship is a hard one, coach has to be hard on the guys but not too hard. He has to figure out problems and listen to his players. I am a McD fan but winning is what it is about and if he cannot win at ISU there are 20 guys that are ready to take his spot. He has to learn from this and become a better all around coach because of it. Who knows this could be the best thing to happen to McD in the long run. Heck maybe Wes left to take one for the rest of his friends and teammates, him leaving sends a statement to McD about the problems with in. My cousin worked with McD at Wayne St and has nothing but great things to say about him, others have said the same thing, what has changed with him since then?
Its time for the rest of the team to step up. Time for that unknown or little used player to shine, take a spot, and become a star. 2 months of planning are down the drain. Now the program must build around CB and DG. It must hope the incoming players are better than we think. It dreams a player can come out of nowhere like Wes did and become a star fast. Its not about Wes and the rest anymore its about the team as a whole finding ways to win. CB and DG are going to need help from everyone including Lucca, Petey, and Adam H. There will be no redshirts again next year, everyones learning will come on the court once again. Winning can happen without Wes it will be very hard though.
The wheels are not coming off the program they have never been back on since that morning the Reg had a pic of LE holding a Natty Lite at a college party. The program is still recovering from that. Since the Hampton Loss nothing has been easy for this program and if it can happen it seems to have happened to ISU Basketball. Many said what LE did will sit the program back 10 years, well that was 5 years ago, we are half way back.

I'm excited to see the development of Craig and Diante. Haluska and Peety were playing well towards the end of the season and hopefully will continue to improve during the offseason.
The rest is a crap shot, if it comes out positive it will be a great season, if not we will be there to support the team, even if we aren't as happy as possible.

We know SH will shoot much better this year, if he stays around. The problem we will have is it will take 20 games to figure out who does what again. We will look like a team of schmucks if the past two year are an indicator gpt momcomferemce. It would be nice to think we will look like a hotrod in nonconference, but past history indicates a Chevy in nonconference.
