Re: GMAC Press Conf Reaction Thread
If he doesn't release him, Wesley is going to have to call and talk to mac, or sue to get out of it. That could get really interesting!

Funny to read the last quote.... Great read, sounds like Wesley is a puppet on a string for certain family members. Sounds like certain family members see WJ as $.

Excellent find. Wesley might be the kind of person that can't stay in the same place for 2 years - let alone 4 years.

ISU could hold open his scholarship which means he can't talk to any other schools until this time next year. That's going to eat him up. If ever a school were to do that, this is the time. With all the national talk of fishy transactions going on, I would support ISU not letting Wesley out of his scholarship for quite awhile. I think universities need to start fighting back on all the quesitonable transactions going on these days.

We may never know and we now will have to wait to see where he winds up to see if any of that speculation might have some wind behind it. Right now I think we all should do what Mac is doing is taking the high road and not throwing Wes under the bus. I do think he's making a huge mistake and is getting some bad advice but I'm not about to completely throw away the 2 years he gave ISU just because I'm upset that he left ISU.
I just hope that he is telling the truth that he was unhappy and this was a personal decision and not someone else telling him what to do or offering him something under the table to do it. From the timeline Greg laid out, nothing in that pointed to Wes being unhappy and possibly looking to leave. Why would you sign a scholarship for next season, look for a job and apartment, and sign up for a summer class if that was not your intent to follow through? And why announce this now instead of right after the season like most people do?
The story about Cory Johnson and how Greg was honest with him that he was not going to play 30 minute a game in the Big 12 to me justifies that Greg has an open line of communication with his players and is not going to tell you 1 thing then not follow through with it. I don't think anyone deserves something just because of what they want and who they are, if you want minutes, if you want a bigger role you have to earn it and I think Mac has proven that in 2 years. Look at Cameron Lee this year as an example of that. A walk-on who played some key minutes defensively in games because he put the work in and earned that time. I don't blame Cory for leaving, if you want 30 minutes a game it is not going to happen at a Big 12 school. It wasn't because of coach Mac, it was because he wanted something we could not provide him with.

Ditto here to backing McDermott...I've been on the bandwagon from day one and am not jumping ship because of this.

In my opinion, Mac provided sufficient evidence to satisfy most people's questions concerning Wesley's departure. Mac may not have done every possible thing correctly in this situation, but I have no doubt that he was surprised by this, and that there are other factors in play here.

Re: GMAC Press Conf Reaction Thread
Right or wrong, I firmly believe Mac and JP are not going to release him from the scholarship. Normally, you always do for the PR of recruiting, doing what's best for the kid, etc. However, after watching the presser, I got the distinct impression they're going to take there time, process all the information, let some things come out, then NOT release him. In a few days or weeks, they'll probably make some sort of statement saying something like, "Due to the lateness and secrecy of his decision, as well as the events & timeline indicating he was returning, we feel it is in the best interest of ISU to not release Wesley Johnson from his scholarship."
I think its fair and the right decision. I think this is one of those times 1% times when you shouldn't release a player. It doesn't happen often, but this is it.

If Wes wants a release I think Pollard/Mac will make him come back to Ames and explain himself.
