Who do you believe?
Now that both sides have been able to speak about the issue...and each side has come forward with completely different stories as to the relationship and who knew and who didn't...
Who do you believe?
- Greg and the sources that all are saying one thing.
or
- Wes, a friend of his that posts here and those that are saying the exact opposite.
Note: I'm not at all referring to who is responsible and who is not for the departure. This is solely about which of the two stories you believe.

Re: Who do you believe?
It's very hard to believe Wesley. He has always been the star athlete and it's obvious that he couldn't handle being coached. I liked GMac's line about how he isn't his best friend he's his coach. I believe Mac.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers -

Greg never shelved the responsibility for this departure on anyone else - the only thing he said was about that - "Wes was getting some bad advice". Greg specifically noted retaining players was something he needed to improve on.
This is strictly about who's story do you believe.
That the staff/players had no idea he was seriously considering leaving...
or
That Wes had his mind made up months ago, the staff knew he was thinking about it and the players were aware of it as well.

Re: Who do you believe?
Gmac is on target here. period. its a young kid who had never had an injury before, he didnt even struggle last year but yet all the sudden he takes off and says it was because of his relationship with gmac. come on..give me a break kid.

Re: Who do you believe?
Sorry I'll trust the grownup not the kid who got bad advice from someone whispering in his ear...

Re: Who do you believe?
Mac....without question. Mac really has nothing to gain by lying here.
Wesley on the other hand, has everything to gain. He needs an "excuse" to transfer AND he needs released from his scholly to head elsewhere.

Re: Who do you believe?
Who cares. I feel like a bunch of gossiping high school girls talking about whose fault all of this is. It sounds like a bunch of little Bitc*** nagging at each other.
It is pretty simple. Wes got up and left like a little baby. Coach Mac has not brought in players who want to be Cyclones. Its not hard.

If you believe Greg, then we should care. Because Wes used the relationship as a scapegoat for leaving, publicly calling out the coach.
If we believe Wes - then our head coach just went on air and lied to the entire fanbase.
So yes - we should care - this is more than just some gossiping.

Re: Who do you believe?
Wesley has said precious little about this situation, and quite a bit of it seems to be contradictory to evidence presented by McDermott. Assuming the evidence McDermott gave is verified, its hard to believe that Wesley knew he would transfer months ago, so that throws into question Wesley's whole story.
At this point, I certainly trust Mac much more than Wesley.

I believe that the staff had no idea he was seriously considering leaving, but had heard some rumblings/rumors. I also believe some of the players had an idea for quite some time that he might seriously consider leaving (which although splitting hairs, is different than knowing he was seriously considering leaving).

From what Mac said, he and Wesley met 6-8 times after the season was over and he said he NEVER had an indication that Wes was leaving...and why would he...there are several documented things that happened to confirm Wes was staying. The job, lease, signed scholarship papers, hosting recruits, interviewing new assistant, and the list goes on.

I concur that seriously can be split many ways.
Throughout the presser and interview, Greg confirmed he and the players were shocked that Wes left. He talked about how Wes not only renewed his lease, summer classes, scholly and set up a summer job - he played a role in the new assistant coach. He hosted recruits. The meetings that included each time with Wesley reaffirming he was a Cyclone, staying, etc. Even as recently as when Pri left.
Would a coach that had any idea a player was going to skate allow a player to have such an impact?
Someone is lying - blatantly lying.

Re: Who do you believe?
Can you blame Mac for not thinking Wes was considering leaving? What more can you do for someone? He has made it completely clear that Wesley was going to be THE guy that he built the team around. Wesley was going to get as much playing time as he wanted, and would always be the goto guy at the end of the game. He's done nothing but praise Wesley right up until he left, and had every reason to believe based on Wesley's actions that Wes was coming back.
Granted, I wasn't there and I don't really know how all this went down, but I don't think ANYONE could have seen this coming.
