Re: Wes Released
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Athletics Department has granted former men’s basketball player Wesley Johnson a release for eight schools.
Coach Greg McDermott and Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard had multiple conversations with Johnson and his mother last weekend. McDermott and Pollard shared the department’s normal release protocol, which does not allow releases to other Big 12 institutions or schools on any future men’s basketball schedules.
“Although we are disappointed in the way Wesley handled his departure, Greg and I both believe that following our normal release protocol is the appropriate action in this situation,” Pollard said.
As a result of those discussions, Wesley Johnson submitted a list of schools that met our department’s guidelines. Those schools are: Arkansas, Connecticut, Marquette, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.” -
Re: Wes Released
So he can only go to those schools? Out of all those schools I hope he goes to Pitt or Villanova b/c I hate all the other schools and I think they will really toughen him up

Re: Wes Released
ISU doesn't release to schools that are on our future schedule? I guess it's lucky for Adam Haluska that Pollard wasn't around for his transfer. Re: Wes Released
those are all good basketball schools, better than ISU at this time.

Re: Wes Released
Perfect, that keeps Kentucky from getting him, while not making ISU look like the bad guy. Good job JP and Coach Mac!

I would guess that Haluska did not renew his scholarship, as Wesley had. We probably wouldn't have a say in where Wesley could go if he hadn't renewed his scholarship. Just a guess.

Just a guess. The releasing school ALWAYS has a say in the terms of the release. Signing that scholarship paper meant nothing...

But, I believe the original poster was saying suppose a player does not renew the schollie - then why does ISU have a say in the release of the contract if the contract is not signed??

Haluska probably didn't sign his scholarship 2 weeks before asking out too.
