Paul Shirley
I went to the library tonight with my wife to hear Shirley speak-very entertaining. A few random highlights, sorry if I ramble, but he did also.
That guy could do stand up, and was very self deprecating (much like his book).
He went for an hour unscripted, mostly taking questions but some of the talk was somewhat planned.
He talked about his pilot, and how he had to reject Kareem as an actor to play the part of his coach because he sucked so bad.
He spoke candidly about some of the players he has dealt with whom he thought were good guys, KG, Steve Nash, Shaq, and Ryan Sears, whom he met in "the minors"
He didn't want to toss a lot of people under the bus, but 2 people he really doesn't care for are Phil Jackson and Kobe, but he didn't really elaborate.
All in all it was a very entertaining evening-if you haven't read his book I would recommend it.
He also talked a lot about being the nerdy, boring white kid who couldn't get dates, which is a bit ironic because his girlfriend is a stone cold fox

I actually just picked up his book from the library tonight and am looking forward to reading it.

It lets you in on some of the backstage info that happened in cyclone basketball. It also tells the tale of minor league basketball which can be very hard and entertaining if you look at the bright side.
The only bad part is he speaks to an audience as though you don't understand basketball. Which I suppose is good for those not in the know but I guess I make the assumption that most people picking up a book about a basketball vagabond would have at least some interest in basketball and thus not need the basic rules of the game explained.

Re: Paul Shirley
I have enjoyed most of his blog stuff and might enjoy the book. It doesnt surprise me about "he speaks to an audience as though you don't understand basketball". The one thing that bugs me once in a while is that he really acts smarter than everyone else. Like hes too cool for school...

Re: Paul Shirley
The book is great. I didn't know he was working on a pilot. What details about that did you pick up?

Boring, white, nerdy kid + NBA career, money = hot girlfriend

Re: Paul Shirley
The pilot was to called the 12th man and about the guy on the end of the bench. I know it cost like $2 million to do which scared off some TV execs...There was some talk of putting it on Itunes(like they did with the Aquaman pilot) but that was shot down...

I really haven't cared much for Shirley since he started to become a celebrity blogger. But, anybody that doesn't care for kobe is alright in my book!

Re: Paul Shirley
Where would Shirley be without his experience at Iowa State? We don't here too much about that now that he's "big time".

Read the book.
