Shortest Time In a Job
The "problem" regarding athletes transferring has been a hot buttom since Wesley's transfer. IMO the criticism is unwarranted, since I think most of us have changed post-college jobs because we weren't happy.
Personally, I was in a job 2 months & moved on. For a couple years it was something that ate at me because I didn't stick it out longer. However, life is about learning from our mistakes and moving ahead.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
2 weeks at Subway. No regrets.
But I assume you're talking about "real world" jobs, not high school/college gigs.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
I worked 2 months at the ISU call center and realized it wasn't for me. No regrets about quitting, I now drive for CyRide.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
I did a job for one week. They weren't exactly honest on the pay they were offering. I figured that it wasn't going to get much better if they were doing that the first week.
Just before that, I was laid off (with all the other temps) after 4 days on a job. -

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
After college job I have been with the same company just over 5 years now so that is what I am counting. However, even most jobs before that usually 2+ years at unless it was seasonal work such as 1 of my HS summer jobs was.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
Opps after college jobs... still at that one.
My shortest time at a job was 1 semester at Campus Book Store. I reeeeeeeally wanted to quit a few times but I did stay the entire semester. I think I was the only one... (That had been hired at the beginning of the semester anyways... there were a few that had been there longer)
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -
Re: Shortest Time In a Job
but how many of use have a job we KNOW will end in 2 yrs? Wes's situation was different because of that. 1 more good year, and he could test the draft.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
A kid from my home town got hired for a summer job at a poultry processing plant. He walked off as soon as he saw what the job involved. He supposedly received a severance check of 17 1/2 cents. I assume that the government got their 2 cents worth from that check.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
I've jumped around on jobs quite a bit in my life. Since 2001, I've been a contractor of one type or another, some of which just lasted a couple weeks.
Once, in college, I quit McDonald's after a week, when the management changed the terms of our hiring agreement, after I was hired.
But I've never violated an employment contract, and I've never outright deceived an employer about my future with them.
That would make me a dishonorable, deceptive, unmanly piece of crap, just like Weaselly Johnson.
And I never want too much of a man to be that much of a wuss.

Re: Shortest Time In a Job
I ran a jack hammer for one day that had a tamping foot on it. I was packing dirt around concrete bridge footings that went up a fairly steep embankment. When I told the foreman at 6 PM that I would not be back the next day, he smiled and thanked me. He said that most did not last until noon.

Worst thing I have ever done and would not wish that on my worst enemy. Ruined the rest of my week.

I did 3-4 weeks at the Iowa State Center that summer - I was mostly on outside calls. Moving picnic tables, putting up fencing, and my favorite, hosing down the sidewalk in front of the Scheeman Building...
