Remember the NBA puts more into Potential then actual performance - thats why there are so many more busts in basketball then in football - try this from the 2003 draft....
Darko Milicic - #2 overall (bust)
Chris Kaman - #6 overall (bust)
Michael Sweetney - #9 overall (bust)
Jarvis Hayes - #10 (bust)
Michael Pietrus - #11 (bust)
Marcus Banks - #13 (bust)
Reece Gaines - #15 (bust)
Troy Bell - #16 (bust)
Zarko Cabarkapa - #17 (bust)
Zoran Planinic - #22 (bust)
Carlos Delfino - #25 (bust)
Ndudi Ebi - #26 (bust)
Lets look at the last 3 players taken in 2003 first round - Kendrick Perkins, Leandrinho Barbosa, Josh Howard.
Regardless of what he accomplished at Iowa State, the NBA will evaluate his tape and then hold workouts and IMO they put very little in college records and stats because they realize at the NBA level the talent is so much higher across the board that no individual (unless your elite talent Kobe, Lebron, MJ) can single handedly sustain a team. If you think that Syracuse has put out that great of NBA talent - name one that accomplished more then a hill of beans - Chris Mullin, Bill Weddington, Pearl Washington, Hakim Warrick - no a lot going on there as far NBA headliners!!!! Before you say it, i will give you Dave Bing, ask todays players who dave bing is and i bet you get a great reaction!!!! There is this guy named Carmelo Anthony who I believe is pretty decent

Uhm...
I think most people know that Carmelo Anthony went to Syracuse. And current NBA player Hakim Warrick went there as well.
If I remember correctly Anthony just made the olympic team. And I think he is thought of as one of the top ten players in the league right now.

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
And before you knock Mullin, please remember he was a member of the original Dream Team (which still gets a fair amount of press) and a 5 time All-Star.

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
Gotta admit I was wrong. Really thought he'd end up at tOSU.

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
Don't forget Rony Seikaly, Derrick Coleman, and Sherman Douglas.
Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -

Just my 2¢...
Oh, and I'm content that WJ went east where we probably won't have to deal with him again.

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
Carmelo was also HIGHLY touted out of high school and was basically NBA ready from Day 1. That can't be said about Wesley Johnson.
Also, if you think Syracuse basketball breeds NBA players...take a look at this list: Syracuse University NBA Players
Not exactly a list full of NBA allstars.

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
I never said that Syracuse puts out star NBA players, but you can't argue that they put a lot more guys in the NBA than ISU does.
-
Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
ooppssss forgot about him.....
Okay, i give you that one, he is a stud!!!!!
-
Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
Don't take my post wrong either, i'm not knocking Syracuse, i love their coach, system and overall program - its awesome!!!! Great following too - fun to watch those crowds in the dome on TV....
All i was mentioning was that Syracuse has put out one legit stud in our lifetime in the NBA.....
I wouldn't put tinsley there, nor would i put hornacek, fizer or any other cyclone in Anthony's level. However, i was referencing the fact that the NBA evaluates players based on POTENTIAL - thats what i think WJ has and he may polish it at Syracuse and he may not.
I wish him the best and now the only Wes i will be cheering for is Wes Eikmeier.....
Sorry for forgetting Anthony that was a bonehead monday morning thing - oh yeah its wednesday!!!!

Re: Wes headed to the 'Cuse
Good luck to Wes in the future and I'm glad the whole episode is over.
