Russell Westbrook was

all but committed to ISU before UCLA came along with a suprising offer three years ago...imagine what that would have done for our program.

Re: Russell Westbrook was

Sorry but Russell was not all but committed to Iowa State at all. Russell Westbrook actually commited to ISU. Then went to Minnisota after the coaching change. If anything Russell had "interest" in ISU.

Are you sure you aren't thinking about Lawrence? He was the one that was committed here under Morgan and backed out to go to Minnesota after Mac got hired.

Re: Russell Westbrook was

Ultimately it really doesn't matter because he didn't come here, but I do find that a little hard to believe since he's not even listed on our college choices on Scout and Rivals and I followed recruiting a bit more then and I never heard of him. That would have really been a stealth recruitment.

No........he was all but committed until the UCLA offer came on, and I most definitely trust this source. And I said Russell. You are still referring to Laurence.

Yes, I'm talking about Russell...and one of our coaches is still good friends with him.

That's what I'm thinking, too. It would have also made a big difference if Rahshon and Jiri had left, or if Blalock and Stinson had stayed, or maybe even if Agnew had remained on the team. *shrug*

I know it is a what if, but it is a fun what if to consider.

Was it a kid the GMac was recruiting to come in?

Lawrence Westbrook was the recruit that committed and then went to Minnesota.

I don't remember Russell.

Yeah, coach TJ was recruiting him with his LA connections. It wasn't Lawrence, it was definitely Russell.

Are you sure he wasn't mistaken and meant Earl Watson from about 8 years ago? Earl was going to be a Cyclone (Floyd recruit) before UCLA swooped in late. I know this is a fact.

Ironically, Watson got abused by Tinsley in the Sweet 16 game.

Actually right in between, but 20 or so days closer to 14. (January 24, 1994.)

Re: Russell Westbrook was

We missed Watson when UCLA whiffed on a few other guys. Then they offered him and he jumped at it. Tinsley made him pay.
