Jake was a good player for us - that's all well and good - never have shorted him on the "credit" he deserved for that.
However, I don't "support" him being a coach here - at least anywhere in the near future. Call it what you want - I just don't see either party being a good fit for one another.

Did he talk about how Tom Crean's style at Indiana might not be the best showcase of Harrison's talents? How about mentioning that with Bill Self's recruiting style he might not be able to shine as brightly sharing the spotlight?
Just seems like he didn't need to take a small shot at the ISU program and could have avoided it altogether. If that is how Jake really feels, then I have no problem with what he said. Too many people want everyone to sugar coat everything and make it all seem swell. He didn't say anything about Crean or Self because he wasn't asked about them, he was asked about McD.

Just seems like he didn't need to take a small shot at the ISU program and could have avoided it altogether. He was asked a question by a media rep. and answered it honestly. Maybe you disagree with the answer but I believe he has the right to do that.
He could have answered it like Wayne Morgan did during interviews and everyone would have jumped on him for it.

He could have answered it like Wayne Morgan did during interviews and everyone would have jumped on him for it. I understand that, I just think he could have been truthful without being negative in that situation. Especially given the tight-knit relationship between his boss and ISU I would think he would want to keep things pleasant there. In addition you'd think a coach for one of the top AAU programs in Iowa would want to have a great relationship with all of the top in-state schools for the players' sake anyway.

There is a possibility that the relationship is sour both ways and Mac isn't a big fan of Jake's. I don't know this, just speculating. However, if Jake's got the top players in the state of Iowa it's Mac's job to befriend him not the other way around.
I'm sure Jake will do what's best for his players in the long run.

Re: I think GMac should find a job for Jake Sullivan
2 things - 1 - Jake destroyed his ankles while playing for/at ISU to the point that he can no longer play ball (correct me if I'm wrong). He's left more of himself at our school than the rest of us combined.
2 - AAU coaches make me nervous anyway. Where do the scumbags ("agents", handlers, facilitators and various nefarious characters at the fringes of college basketball) go? To the AAU coaches with the kids they want. HB is a HOT property and to think there aren't a hundred folks looking for ANY in with the kid is fantasy-land. That "in" will be in most cases through the coach.
I'm ABSOLUTELY not saying anything bad is going on, but the opportunities for mischief will be plenty and lucrative. It takes solid character to resist the lure.

Re: I think GMac should find a job for Jake Sullivan
AAU coaches can be sketchy. I have been to some tournaments where some of the coaches are absolute idiots. Go watch Mac Irvin Fire play. They are out of Chicago, their coaches are idiots! I'm not saying Jake is an idiot, he is not, far from it.
Jamie Johnson, the Barnstormers coach, is another good example of a sketchy character. I have heard some very interesting stories about him "recruiting" players.
