Harrison Barnes Question
Say he commits to go elsewhere in the next 12 months. Does the staff not allow him to be around the team anymore? Is he allowed to play in the cap city league? From what I can tell he has spent a lot of time around the ISU program and using ISU facalities. These things are probaly making him a better player. It really will be an odd situation if he goes elsewhere, since he seems to be so close to the ISU program right now and since ISU may have helped him get to where he is today.
He does have chances to go places not many do and it sucks as ISU fans if he does go elsewhere but players chose other schools all the time.

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
on one hand....
I would tell him he can work out elsewhere.... that it is just business
the other part of me says that it would be great for our guys to work out against him....

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
Don't know that ISU has helped him get to where he is today, since he's been able to hang with ours guys since day one.
I think his ability to be around the program is all about business- the recruiting business. Wesley Staten (2012 - verbal commit) -
Re: Harrison Barnes Question
If he commits elsewhere, he can find somewhere else to practice. We're not in the business of training players for other schools (well, I guess we have been, but no reason to do it.)

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
There is no way he'll be allowed to have the close connection with the ISU program if / when he commits somewhere else. It just won't happen.

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
Doesn't his mom work at Iowa State? I know most small colleges, and I would assume ISU as well, families are allowed to use the facilities to work out and do stuff like that.

I think there is a big difference from being able to use facilities like Lied or playing a pickup game in the summer, and going to practices, working out with the team during the season, and going to games for free.

I think you just tell him that he has the same access as any other resident of Ames. If he wants to play a pickup game with the team on their own time, that is fine. There just won't be any "special" access allowed.
The coaches need to do this in a nice business-like manner as you wouldn't want to burn any bridges. Players have been known to transfer.

OR you let him have as much contact as possible with a chance at swaying his allegiance back to the good guys...

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
I would assume that the school he commited to wouldn't want him at Iowa State practices or at their facilities with their players and coaches. Just in case he decided to change his mind.

If he commits, I hope nothing changes, he can always change his mind. When he signs, cut him off...

Re: Harrison Barnes Question
If Barnes goes elsewhere...
I believe that the coaching staff for ISU wouldn't change a thing as far as the liberties granted this kid and his ability to hang/scrimmage with the team.
But, I also think that when Barnes does choose a school (and lets just say it isn't ISU. /shudder), his focus will be there and not so much on ISU, so this thread may be a moot point.
Regardless of the outcome, I'm sure the staff will take the high road, though disappointed as they may be, and support Harrison 100%.
