I saw Coach Orr at Panera in West Des Moines last week and the memories always come roaring back when I see him.

What are some of your favorite Johnny Orr quotes? Try to keep them as clean as possible, this is a family sight.

Not a quote, but a story. I spent 4 years with the pep band, and at the end of every basketball season, each member of the band would get a thank you letter from Coach Orr. I thought that was a very classy move by a guy who had plenty of other things to spend his time doing.

ill admit I wasn't a cyclone fan back when johnny coached (forgive me I was poorly educated) but I am forever in his debt for making dickie v refuse to ever to return to hilton. (in addition to the creation of hilton magic...and everything else)

Naw, better not. Had to do with his thoughts about Iowa--and a private conversation. Let's just say Johnny didn't like Hawkeyes.

Some of my favorites were when JO went on Channel 13's Beat the Bear with Jim Zabel and Rick Silvestrini, and JO made Zabel look like a complete fool...

Not being in the pep band, I did not know this...but I am not surprised. I was at most of the Cyclone Club meetings around the state for a couple of years in the mid 80s with Johnny and he is truly a great guy.

I read on this site about us needing to have a "swagger" in certain sports...Johnny gave us that in BB. The guy was an elite coach and he chose to move to ISU from Michigan at the height of his career. He quickly built ISU into a winner and gave us some sorely needed athletic tradition.

I absolutely love Johnny Orr!

Amen! I tear up thinking about those Cyclone memories. (Happened a lot on the 100 years DVD)

The Cyclone teams he coached while I grew up are the reason that my wife and I bought season tickets once we could afford them. Awesome times, coming back soon
