Is the Cyclone Shootout this weekend?
Does anyone know if ISU is going to have a shootout at Hilton after one of the football games?

Re: Is the Cyclone Shootout this weekend?
Since McDermott has been coach, they haven't had a shootout. Not sure if it was his decision or just the athletic department's. I remember under Orr and Floyd where the shootout would attract over 12K fans......but slowly tapered off over the years.

Ask Pollard, he is behind the " no more tipoffs" as I recall.

Re: Is the Cyclone Shootout this weekend?
The athletic department didn't run the tip-off. It was a production of the Ames/Story County Cyclone Club, and it (the tip-off) outlived its usefulness.
Between the horrible emcees (Van and Bonnie?!?!?!?) and the 30-minute intermission for a live auction, it got to be too much.

That is correct, but I know I am right about the noon luncheon being cut from every week to once a month, no more spring outings accross the state and no more tip off.......AS I was at the meeting when Pollard cut it all out. Virtually every local Cyclone Club was ****** about it.
It was the topic of discussion on the Gridiron bus to K- State 2 yrs ago among the various local cyclone club board members on the bus.
Pollard has his ways of running things and , so far he has been successful, but a lot of loyal fans who can't always attend games, at least got to mingle with and get to know the coaches at the local Spring golf & banquet outings... It went from about 30+ outings to 6 big ones in the bigger cities...CB, Sioux City , Mason City, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, & Davenport. Ames and Des Moines were handled differetly.

i really wish they would bring these back. i really enjoyed these
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams -
Re: Is the Cyclone Shootout this weekend?
Thanks for the help. It's been so long I forgot their name ("tip-off").

Re: Is the Cyclone Shootout this weekend?
Those long, long summer P.R. trips thankfully were dropped -- it took too much staff and coaches' time and just about wore them out. It's much better the way they do it now.

I miss the tip-off games too. I remember seeing Stinson for the first time and then going home to tell my wife that one of our recruits must be 25 years old.

And we have this short dude (Blalock) that can and won the dunk contest!
And for the 1st time in a 3 years that a player from the men's team won the 3-point contest!
And I got a 2 new posters for the living room, our bedroom, the kitchen, the kids' bedrooms, the garage, my office, your office..
And I pushed a kid to the ground to get a free schedule for my wallet?
And I made the first bid for a dinner for two with coach and his wife, but I quickly got outbid.
And we look unbeatable!!
I miss the good ol' days.
