Team Youth
I was curious what the break out per class of this years men's Basketball team is:
20% Seniors
7% Juniors
40% Sophmores
33% Freshman
Wow what a young team.
Truly a team to judge how we're doing under Coach McDermott as these are mostly his recruits, but we're still a few years away.
My prediction is that we should still expect growing pains this year, but should see some good progress and better baskeball than what we've had the last couple years.

Re: Team Youth
Nice breakdown. I don't need us to win championships. I just want us to be competitive in every game, try hard, and sneak a few wins here and there. If they do that, I'll continue to support them.
Remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts!

Re: Team Youth
Greg has lost a lot of players that is not a good break down for year 3 or 4 whatever it is.

So we're allowed to rip on you when a walk on comes through huge this season?

I'm just saying, of you really want to consider the true makeup and maturity of Mac's team, consider the scholarship players, not the walkons.

Just because we are trying to build a tradition doesn't mean we can't win with the players we have now. We have some good quality big twelve players and other teams don't ***** about being a few years away, if you have a good coach and talented players any team can win.

Petey and Haluska were both recruited walk-ons who are major contributors. I think its safe to count them.

Again, I was speaking for evaluating the state of the program, not the oncourt success. When the vast majority of your cholarships are in the lower classes, it says a great deal about where the program is going, not just where it is.

I know very few league champion teams that were built around a bunch of freshman and sophmores. Sure it happens, but it's an exception to the rule. Got to look at the facts here. As I indicated before, we should expect a better team than we've been seeing, but doubt we'll be making a run at the the Big 12 title.

Rebuilding every year for 3 years hurts.
Go Clones!! Gig 'em Aggies!! Saw 'em off!! -
Re: Team Youth
Some of you need to realize that "youth" is no longer a liability...if you are recruiting the right guys. CBB today is dominated by the ultra talented players. Look at last year:
1st Team All Big 12:
2 frosh
2 soph
2 jr
1st Team AP All America:
2 frosh
1 soph
2 jr
The game is changing (or has changed)...the dominant players and teams are the ones with the ultra talented young players. Gone are the days of the senior laden team dominating.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

My guess is all of them.
When was the last 1 and done player ISU had....?
