Some love for Craig!
This was from the Jay Bilas blog this morning about underrated players. He has Craig Brackins in there. Its good to see him getting some love from the national guys. Craig Brackins, Iowa State: A skilled big man who can step away from the basket, Brackins has the chance to be an outstanding college player. He averaged 11 points and five rebounds per game last season and shot 73 percent from the free-throw line. As he learns how to play, Brackins can bring Iowa State back.

I've always liked Bilas. Seems to know his stuff.

Re: Some love for Craig!
I'm curious to see how his 3-pt game looks. Which game was it last year where he went off? Mizzou?

ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)
Ya gotta have the horses, man - Johnny Orr. -

Stupid Baylor, they were the only team that beat me consistently on NCAA basketball for the super nintendo.

However, if he's open, and hot, he's gotta shoot it. He (and JVB) can create some big mismatches out there. If CB can learn to fake, and take a couple of dribbles to the basket, he will be very tough to guard.

Re: Some love for Craig!
Thanks, guys. My memory isn't all that awesome sometimes.
I agree that I hope he doesn't stray out too far too often, as we really need him down-low. However, if he's able to consistently hit the 3 and he's open, I hope we don't limit him. The problem with Jiri was that he was pretty convinced he was better at the 3 than he really was.

This year, i'm thinking we'll rebound better, so i really would like to see Brackins out in 3-point space more. If you put JVB, Brackins, and Thompson in the game simultaneously, i think that either Brackins or JVB should be drifting to the 3-point line regularly, to try to open lanes for Buckley, Garrett and (hopefully) Staiger to penetrate and either dump or finish.

How are we going to rebound better losing our top three rebounders?

However, based on the HS and JC statistics, Pomlee, Hamilton, Mann, and JVB are all decent rebounders. Craig is pretty good as well. Of course, Pomlee and Mann may get redshirts.
I think we struggle to get to the rpg numbers we had last season.
