New Cyclones This Year
History under every coach since Johnny Orr has shown us that not all of our incoming players will end up meeting the hype that accompanies their arrival. We as fans tend to think everyone will "pan out" as expected but that clearly is not the case.
In nearly every incoming class you have guys that ultimately become bench warmers or leave the program. Typically, you have one or maybe two guys that really become impact players. Every once in a while you have a guy come out of nowhere to be an impact guy that you were not expecting to do so.
Right now, before these guys have played any games as Cyclones, everyone sees the potential and thinks the best. My question to you is, although we always hope so, realizing that not everyone will pan out as expected...what do you see for this year's new guys. Who will:
+Become an impact player as a Cyclone
+Be a bench warmer / minor role player at best
+Be a potential transfer
+Be a surprise impact player
This is not meant to be a knock of the coach or of any player...just a serious question in light of the reality that just about every incoming class has players fall into these categories in spite of our hopes that every player recruited becomes an All Conference performer.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

I'm not really into predicting failure.
I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system. -

It's very important that Buckley is a legit Big 12 caliber PG. Other than that, I don't have much of an opinion on the new guys yet. This would be a fair question around Christmas.

Re: New Cyclones This Year
Really...not meant to be a set-up at all.
Every year since my freshman year at ISU in 1983 I have heard (and usually given) nothing but glowing praise about incoming players and how great they will be. Some end up living up to expectations (Grayer, Hoiberg, Fizer). Some end up not (Dudek, Robert Johnson). Some end up being very pleasant surprises (Hornacek, Homan). And some end up leaving for whatever reason (Mack, Wesley Johnson).
This has happened under Orr, Floyd, Eustachy, Morgan, and McDermott. It happens at other schools as well. If all of these new players end up staying at ISU and being impact players I will crawl across the continental US on my hands and knees without taking a break to rest.
I was just trying to provoke some honest discussion of what is nearly certain to be the reality.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

I am really curious why we are not hearing more about him.
Unfortunately, unless he averages about 20 and shoots about 50% from the field, Staiger is likely to feel like a disappointment to many that have built him into a legend in their minds before he ever straps it on for the Cyclones...even if he has a decent career as a Cyclone.

Re: New Cyclones This Year
His surgically repaired knee has already put him in this category. Poor guy.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: New Cyclones This Year
I'm more curious in the development of players from last year. I think u pose a valid question but me personally I can't rank until I see them play.
Garret and Brackins are the two I hope for the improvement from. Don't take that as a judgement on their play last year. I hope they just keep getting better.
For a noob I'll put Lucca as a impact player, if he is heathly. He's already proven his game on a level higher than high school so I hope for good things. Posted via Mobile Device
