Quick question then, since we have some different views on the guards.
Michael Nurse or Jake Sullivan?
I would have to go with Nurse on that call. Just on the 2000 season alone....before that year I know he was "streaky." But in 2000, there is no way I would pass him up for Sullivan. Sullivan had a good career though.
How Sullivan made the All Century team is beyond me... He never even had any All Conference mentions...
Hey, I agree too. He only went to 1 NCAA Tourney as well....and he was a freshman when Tinsley was running the Show in '01. (That made him a bench player on that great squad.) His team's later did choke a bunch. And what was up with the number change to 0? Weird.
Yep, I was a little disappointed in him....and he got loads of credit all these years. Why?
Again, if we're talking pure shooting - Jake. But Nurse had some real intangibles. Even though Fizer and Tinsely were the stars, Nurse was in many ways the heart and emotion of that 2000 team. The whole squad had a certain nastiness and defense orientation about them that I really loved.
Just for my two cents I didn't mean for my post to start the Sullivan bashing. I voted for him for the all century team.
the guy isn't Hoiberg or Jeff H ... but few are.
Hey, we need to give props to Jake - he holds the key to HB's future.
He's the #7 scorer in ISU history.
he's the #1 in 3 pointers made in ISU history and has the best average.
He's the #9 all time leading free throw shooter in NCAA history. Obviously that makes him #1 at ISU with more attempts than anyone but Freddie.
I think the love for him has some merit.
Granted he was a defensive liability, but nobody's perfect.
Yeah, good points. I really liked the free-throw effort that he gave. He did have a good career.
Again, I just think that he was there at the wrong time. We were just coming off back to back titles....and the team was just blowing it, not making it to the post-season that we wanted....(and he was our "star" player....I just think that all had to do with everyone getting on him and all-)
Cato and Fizer will Forever hold a place in my Heart.
Those were the GLORY YEARS for ISU Basketball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
