Top ISU Starting Five Ever: MBB
The greatest starting line up ever would be this folks, write it down:
PG - Jaamal Tinsley
SG - Fred Hoiberg
SF - Jeff Grayer
PF - Marcus Fizer
C - Kelvin Cato
(Wow, what a sweet starting five that would be.)
Also, they would be coached by Larry Eustachy.....but Johnny would yell at them in the Locker-room.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? I like it. Not sure we need Johnny to do Larry's yelling however.
Freddie might get a run for his money from Hornacek. Have to give Jake and his dead-eye some love.
Might put Victor Alexander in there at center as well. Different players. Vic provided some good offense down low.
Hopefully Brackins will be working his way into the conversation as well. Hard act to beat in Fizer.
We've had some decent PGs - but I can't think of anyone who could touch Tinsely. Wes perhaps had a shot at Grayer - but that's gone by the wayside. Not sure who else would be in the running. Stevens?
If they didn't crack the starting lineup - those would be modern-era reserves.
All time hustle player for me would be Stevie Johnson. Loved that guy's heart.

I was going to mention Hornacek as well. Honorable mention if not in the top 5!

Re: Top ISU Starting Five Ever: MBB
Any all-time list has to include if not begin with Zaid Abdul-Aziz (Don Smith). Absolutely the best and most talented big man to ever play for ISU. He would start for any coach over the likes of Cato or Fizer.

I'd like a little more scoring at the 5. Zaid Abdul-Aziz would do the trick.

Re: Top ISU Starting Five Ever: MBB
Yeah, if you go with the top bench players, here would be a good list:
Guards:
SG - Jeff Honacek
SG - Dedric Willoughby
SG - Justus Thigpen
SG - Gary Thompson
(Yep, no Jake Sullivan) Maybe Stinson...if he would have stuck it out.
PG - Jacy Holloway (The guy never turned it over)
PG - Ron Bayless
Bigs:
SF - Barry Stevens
SF - Julius Michalick (I loved U-Lo)
SF - Shawn Bankhead (for defensive stops)
PF - Loren Meyer
PF - Martin Rancik?
PF/C - Homan or Vroman?
C - Victor Alexander

Forgot Abdul-Aziz...my dad had the pleasure of watching him while he was up at ISU.
As for me...Fizer is still top dog. My freshman year at ISU. You do remember 2000 Correct? He was unreal that year....best player ISU has EVER had....(for a college career of course.)

C - Victor Alexander How do you have Stinson at SG and not even consider Jake?
FWIW - I take Jake over Justus as well. Close call on Dedric. IMO, the only thing Jake doesn't have on either is speed for D. Shooting is equal if not superior to both.

Stinson is an athlete on this bench...so is Thigpen. I already have shooters in Hornacek and Thompson to take care of that. I need a playmaker. Jake can keep stats on the sideline though.

For all the Stinson bashers. I thought it was funny that the Iowa Energy coach said that Stinson has one of the highest Basketball IQ's and is one of the most coachable players he has ever had...

Re: Top ISU Starting Five Ever: MBB
I also think Cato over Big Vic because of his tremendous shot blocking ability. Vic can come in and get the offense going as well...
This team would rule.

For how exciting D-League games are I figured they just used local middle school coaches.
