Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
I think if Wes doesn't pan out a lot of people will express their disappointment in Greg/staff.

Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
As somebody who has seen Lucca play, (albeit in the CCL) I don't think he'll ever be a guy that puts up huge numbers. I just don't see him handling the ball enough for that. He's going to play smart, make the extra pass, stretch the defense with his shooting ability... and that is great that he will do those things.

Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
If I recall, the threads from last winter were nothing more than NEWS reports of how a cyclone reruit was doing. A resident of Wes's hometown was posting those reports and he took a lot of crap from you and others for simply posting reports and articles. Saying "This kid is going to dominant in the Big XII" would be an opinion and exaggeration but saying "Wes scored 40 again last night" are simply the facts of a report.

But isn't it time to get over this?

yeah, it just won't work... People are more concerned that our style isn't beating teams out of the MVC.

But isn't it time to get over this? Thank you! I am amazed at how short everyone's memory appears to be. All of the following are direct quotes from posts that appeard about Eikmeier last year (and I only reviewed a few of the threads about him): He needs to play right away!!!
He has a really sweet looking jumper, and looks athletic and strong enough that I doubt he will redshirt next year.
He looks like he can dribble drive and creat is his own shot from anywhere on the floor.
I have said he is a complete player, shooter, ballhandler, passer, he can create his own shot going to the basket and he is very quick on defense.
Wes has the skills to play point guard, he will be a very good shooting guard and help with the ball handling when needed.
Many people on here don't think he is goign to do well in D1...I personally think if we had him this year, it would make it easier on our post players because we really don't have a pure shooter that can nail down 3s.
With Eikmeier and Jesse Carr playing for us today, we likely would have won, huh? There were probably other guards playing in that game that were better than ours.
Wes is an unselfish team player, if he was out for himself he could be taking a lot more shots and getting more hype in the process.
Wow. I guess that shows they can compete with the "bigger boys."
Mike Anderson of Missouri also was quoted as saying that if Wes ever decided to not go to ISU, there would be a scholarship waiting for him at Mizzou (paraphrase).
Wes tried out for Gmac at the YMCA in Fremont right after he was names our coach. He made close to 50 straight 3's, in an hr long meeting. Gmac offered the scholarship on the spot.
Wes is the leading scorer in the state, he is a smoothering defender and is the fastest person I have seen this year with the ball in his hands. He is the team leader.
maybe gmac isn't recruiting him to take over a game. maybe he sees that the kid is a lights out shooter which is something this team desperately needs and therefore we are filling a huge role.
Exactly, he's a defense-stretcher. You couple good shooters (Lucca, Eikmeier) with a solid point guard (Garrett, Buckley), great swing man (Johnson) and a good low post player (Brackins) and you have the making of a potent team.
This is starting to scare me, because I am becoming optimistic all of a sudden. That does sound potent, and next year could be a great year, if no one gets injured/transfers/goes pro. "knock on wood"
Small schools in Nebraska are pretty well respected. And most of the private schools can play with any one in any sport.
You can never have enough great shooters. And we don't have any. I wish Eikmeier was here already.
Every coach he plays against talks about how they designed the defense to stop him and he scores a lot of points anyway.
Wes has so much upside, he can shoot, he is a legit 6'3" but thin, he is very fast with the ball in his hands, he is a very good defender, but I have not seen him against other D-1 recruits, he can create his own shot, he has a very quick release on the catch and shoot and he is a very good passer. One play they run every game is Wes circling around the top and going for an backdoor alley oop for a lay in.
I talked to a coach who played (and lost) to Wes' HS team last Saturday. He has been coaching in NE for 15 yrs. Wes is the best he has seen. He believes he can be Player of the Year in Nebraska. He thinks he will be a very good Big 12 player, especially when he puts on some weight.
Guess that boy can shoot the lights out. We can use an outside shooter or two right now. 1-13.....last game.
I cant wait until Wes plays at ISU
Anybody that is getting the opposing teams best defenders and probably double teamed and still put up those numbers and shooting % might be worthy.
Don't forget he made 214 3's at ISU in GMAC's drill and holds the ISU Record.
Right on. Maybe Wes can put on the SH uniform tonight and help out against Baylor.
It will be the Wesley and Wes Show. People will be suprised by how good a ball handler he is. He is the fastest player I have seen on the court this year. Wes is not just shooter. Guys who can shoot are always a plus... even if they aren't the quickest (Jake Sullivan and Jeff Hornacek come to mind) REALLY excited about Wes. This sounds awesome, if we can get that sharpshooter (who can also dunk) I think everything will really fall in place to coincide w/ Garrett's slashing, WJs intermediate game, and Brackins down low. Throw in unknowns like Lucca, Buckley, and so on and this team may be something to be reckoned with! Then bring in Dykstra, Barnes, Stevens, etc. (hopefully) and Hilton Magic may be back. Gotta Believe! He shot the ball 21 times and made 9 attempts and had 4 three pointers. He is taking a lot of shots, I don't think he'll be able to take as many here but will still be a major factor. Wes is continually putting up gaudy numbers. Regardless of the competition, that many points and three pointers on a nightly basis is at least somewhat impressive. Some stats, such as free throw shooting, that he excels at, will be valuable and should transfer to Big 12 play no matter what. I don't think Eikmeier is your dime-a-dozen high school player. He's been involved in AAU ball against much tougher competition and apparently done pretty well. Also, a lot of D-I programs are interested in him, including Nebraska, Creighton, and Missouri. ofcourse it dont matter since in small rural Nebraska they have easier basketballs to shoot and easier gyms to play in. I don't care if he is playing midgets at this point. Anybody that is getting the opposing teams best defenders and probably double teamed and still put up those numbers and shooting % might be worthy. I'm sick of all you people complaining about the talent he is playing against. When was the last time you have seen numbers like that against someone? That being said, the ability to shoot generally translates to any level. Anyone remember that short chubby dude for Oklahoma that used to fill it up from three? What about Humphries from Florida? He wasn't very big or athletic but he could sure fill it up. He is a pure shooter no matter what competition eh is playing against. Talent is talent, regardless of where it is. Small schools in Nebraska are pretty well respected. And most of the private schools can play with any one in any sport. You can never have enough great shooters. And we don't have any. I wish Eikmeier was here already I agree, he looks quicker than many might know. I expected a spot up 3 point shooter. He looks like he can dribble drive and creat is his own shot from anywhere on the floor. I know, I know. The bigXII is different but I'm still pleasantly surprised by his speed. Expect the starting five at conference time to be Lucca, Craig, Wesley, Wes, and anyone else guard.
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
I'm not going to quote that behemoth, but it appears to me that a good number of those quotes are observational/speculative in nature.
Not many that say he's going to be an All-American or anything.
As I've said before, it's not that you have a negative opinion of him, it's that you insist on stating it over and over. We get it. Time will tell if the speculation is right or wrong.

Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
I'm not quoting that long post either...but many many of those quotes are still true. I'll give you that some are ridiculous. Overall, most are true.

Re: McDermott on 1700 AM shortly
I thought the bulk of them were true in the context they were given.
There were a couple fantasyland posts but most of that was valid until proven otherwise.

Dean Wormer was wrong. Fat, drunk and stupid was a great way to go through college (all five years of it).
