Joe Harden, the player that absolutely killed us is a transfer from Notre Dame who as such didn't play last season, so you're argument about how bad they were last season doesn't hold much.

Not as smooth as Saturday, but it's not that bad. Nobody looks great their first time out. I think we've got some gamers out there now, and just had some cold shooting in the first half. There were plenty of good, open shots; we just missed them. Same guys that missed then made clutch shots later.

    It'll be fine. It's a first game.
Its amazing how much better you are when shots fall. We know there are shooters on this team, it may take them time to get the game feel. Look at Haluska last year, he didnt hit anything but he found his shot and played well late beacause of it. There are more shooters on this team than last years and it will pay off as they get more confortable with everything.

No offense, but I think you have been anything but overly positive about the state of our football program when they appear to be in a much worse state than the MBB program.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

However that doesn't explain why we played like crap, so I won't argue with you there.

Oh, and Notorius JVB is going to provide some much needed help in the post this season. We finally have someone who goes for the putback!!! Thank the lord!

Confidence is the most underated factor in how well a person plays. Hearing this means I chalk half of AT's bad performance up to the Cyclone Alley Staff Members. McD should have them sit in the back of the alley for a few games.

I know it's only one game, but it does appear that people from small schools in Nebraska can, in fact, play some ball.

I haven't commented much at all on the football team since their downturn. This year has been fully disappointing. I do think the basketball team is in a bad place right now, but it's also fully capable of being turned around quickly. The other day I said I was encouraged by where our 2010 recruiting was headed.

I really don't know what to say about this. I don't see what anyone gains by trying to masquerade mediocrity.

I'm friends with members of the basketball team and staff. I have not criticized any one of the coaches or players on this board. I've stated that tonight's game was a joke and a disappointment, which it should be for any team from the Big 12 against a team that I'm fairly sure would get it's *** handed to it in our conference.

Re: Official game thread: ISU vs. UCD

It was a sparse crowd, but the fans were able to create some noise down the strech. I think everyone except CrossCyed was doing their part to create some noise. CrossCyed, on the other hand, was too busy pouting that we didn't perform like national champions during the first 35 minutes of the game to get any enjoyment out of an exciting comeback.

I loved every second of how the team overcame adversity and pulled off a win. It does not matter who the opponent was that was a confidence builder for this young team.

There are more pieces to this puzzle this year. Give GM some time to get the pieces put together, and I think this team is going to be fun to watch.

Crosseyed does this mean that you are now ready to quit watching and rooting for the Clones? If that is true does it follow that you will now be leaving CF forever. Just hoping, oops I mean wondering.

Re: Official game thread: ISU vs. UCD

I was at the game. Here's what I saw from players:

Garrett: Started at PG, and played most of the game there. Looked more confident and poised at PG than I remember him last year. Handled the ball well. Could penetrate well, but struggled finishing his shots. Made the go-ahead shot near the end.

Peterson: Started at SG. Had a very forgettable game. He grabbed a few rebounds early in the game, but that was about it. He was one of the first out and I'm rather hoping that Eikmeir does well enough to steal playing time from him in the future.

Haluska: Started at the 3. Also didn't have a good game. His shot was way off tonight. Hopefully that's a one-game aberation.

Brackins: Started at PF. Sat the whole first half after 2 quick fouls. Tried to do a little too much on offense sometimes, but he was our ONLY effective player in the post. There was a concerted and relatively effective effort to get him the ball later in the game. He didn't play great perimiter defense though and his guy hit some 3s during their run.

Thompson: Started at C. Clearly one of our better defenders. He also hit a few shots from about 12 feet. Can't catch the ball though and was not a danger to score in the post except on put backs.

Vanderbeeken: First off the bench for post players. Had a good game after missing his first few shots. Not afraid to take the open 3 and made a few of them. Not a low-post scoring threat at all although he did have some good put backs. Played respectable defense, although UC Davis didn't have much in the way of a post offense. Hit two clutch free throws at the end.

Eikmeir: One of the first off the bench at G, and played significant minutes. He looked a bit nervous to start the game, but seemed to get more comfortable as it went on. Nailed three 3's in a row in the second half. He has a very quick and smooth shot which will serve him well. He also handled the ball well on some breaks and played good defense. Size-wise he appears to be about the same as Haluska, and is clearly an upgrade from Peterson on the defensive end. I expect and hope that we will see him taking time from both Peterson and Haluska in the future.

Staiger: Got a good ovation when he came in and the crowd clearly wanted him to shoot the ball. He played well on defense and showed a lot of hustle, but didn't get his few shots to fall. His billing as the best passer on the team appears accurate as he made some excellent post-entry passes. He appears to have the size needed to play the 3 and I strongly suspect that is where he will see most of his time. His minutes were relatively limited though and he appeared to be icing his knee on the bench near the end of the game.

Buckley: Played limited minutes when he spelled Diante at PG. Had one nice score on a cut to the basket. Handled the ball well and didn't turn it over, which I suspect is all that will be asked of him this year.

Hamilton: Got some minutes in the first half, but stayed on the bench in the second. Appears to be our biggest player and I suspect we may need him come Big XII time. His defense still needs some work though imo as he didn't appear to hedge very well when his man set screens. He had a dunk on a breakaway, but otherwise didn't appear to be much of a scoring threat.

Mann: Played for only a very short time at the end of the first half. His defense was good, but that was all he got the chance to do.
    Seneca Wallace.

In a few hours, everyone is going to forget about how we played in this game. In a few months, we will struggle to remember UC-Davis.
In a few years, all we will see is a W in the record books.

Although this game may be disappointing, a comeback like this may serve us well later in the year.

Very positive...I said it wasn't going to be pretty early...We found a way to win...Had guys step up when we didn't shoot very well...UC Davis was not that bad of a team...learning experience...When we play Colorado, you can't put a price tag on this game.

WE CAN DO NO BETTER THEN WIN...next game
