Wearing #40 as a tribute to Chris Street should have stopped once Hoiberg, Meyer and Wheat were gone. After that, did it really have a personal meaning to any ISU player? Klay Edwards, maybe.

The Brian Pearson tribute has already been interrupted once -- Corey McIntosh (a non-Iowan) wore it two years ago, and I don't recall any outrage.

I was under the impression the #40 thing was going to go on forever... and it should....

I agree with this totally.

I understood it in the beginning with the "Iowa kids" on our roster personally knowing Street who was an "Iowa kid" on the hawkeye roster. How many kids in Iowa today even know who Chris Street is? It would have been different if he played for ISU but he was a hawk. The Iowa kids on the ISU roster at the time of his death just wanted to do something as an honor to their friend. It should have ended when those kids left the program. Do the hawks do something with the number 40 for him still?

I can much more see something being done on an ongoing basis to honor Pearson who was a Cyclone. And in my opinion if something is being done it should be tired to cancer awareness. I believe he died of cancer...correct?

I agree. It honors an Iowa kid, not a Cyclone, not a Hawkeye, but an Iowa kid. It's an important reminder that some things transcend sports, and this is one of them.

I remember ISU starting this tradition and I for one would like to see it go on. I think it is (was) a very classy move on ISU's part.

Because when they started it, Orr said a kid from Iowa would ALWAYS wear #40... We still have plenty of kids from Iowa on the team... It's one of the few traditions we have or had, why not keep it...

It was a tradition for Johnny Orr and his era. And while Coach Orr was a great man, I don't think he'd want his dictates to be carried on for eternity.

I remember Chris Street and think the idea was a good one.

I don't mind however that they are no longer doing it. It's time to move on and there are many other people who face tragedy in life that can be honored.
