Thompson would be a logical choice being a big man. He might not have been born in Iowa however. Dunno. Good question. Oversight?
This came up last season, because someone had the same (very good) question.
That was one of the neater and classier traditions in college basketball. I'm guessing (key word) that it's simply faded, because time has passed since Chris's passing away. There might be a better reason. I don't remember anymore.
I guess its not really an "iowa born" player as much as someone from Iowa... I thought we had a #40 last year...
I'm not familiar with this tradition, though it sounds cool
After a while though it probally loses it's effectiveness....

Whatever happened to that jacobson guy who was a walk on guard. Good at 3's
Knee injury.

I wore #40 at my high school in Florida. I came back for Christmas (our family is from here) and heard the story just after he was killed and immediately switched numbers.
Too bad to have to stop because of injury. I hope he heals well.
I'm sorry, i liked his effort, but Brock did not equal good...
So why doesn't Haluska, Thompson or Peterson wear #40?
I believe having a player from Iowa wear #40 changed to someone from Iowa wearing #3 after Brian Pearson died of cancer. (Sean Haluska wears #3)
It'd be nice if we could do both, though it might not be likely that we always would have two Iowa kids on the roster.
