Re: Attendance
Now let's get those people to the game! Or somebody at least!
Hilton will be all revved up with 13,500+ in there game by game!
Let's go, Cyclone fans, and bring Hilton Magic back, and beyond where it's ever been!!!

Re: Attendance
I don't think there was even 8k but that's a difficult guess to make.
-
Re: Attendance
I'd be stunned if there were 8000 there. There were 4-5 empty rows directly in front of me. From the rafters, you can see a whole lot of open space. Let's get the people in!

Re: Attendance
Any preseason game that gets anything over 8,000-10,000 given the econimy and overall Cyclone mood is a good place to start from.

Re: Attendance
It's a good start. Since these tickets are already sold, let's get them used! The people have already voted in the economy, and bought those tickets. Let's get some use out of the ticket, and get Hilton rocking!

I would guess the actual attendance was about 6000 or less. Hilton holds just over 14,000 and there was definitely less than half the seats occupied.

Re: Attendance
From the rafters, you are correct, sir.

Re: Attendance
From up in the balcony I would said about half full.

Re: Attendance
Sure the seats are sold and that is great. However, here is how the economy might play in:
1. General depressed attitudes that determine if some stay home or go out.
2. Might make some stay home to avoid spending another $10-$40 in concessions.
3. General Cyclone challenges.
Even 6-7,000 for a Sunday evening preseason game is not that bad, (not great, at all either). Does it need to be better, yes!. However, sometimes we do not recognize how good even tihs amount is for preseason and in comparison to other schools.

Re: Attendance
I may be coming across too strongly, since I'm too tired for subtlety today. I'm not intending to bash those that stayed home. I'm just simple-minded enough that I'm driven to utilize whatever I'm paying for.
I don't tend towards real depressed, though, so maybe I'm not giving enough credence towards that.
At the same time, the depressed person could maybe find someone to fill that seat. I see expensive seats unfilled game after game after game. That seems strange to me.

Re: Attendance
I agree Erik. I don't understand the empty seats. When my wife or I can't attend, we either sell or give away our tickets. If my wife can't go, I bring a friend.
There are some exceptions that I do understand, however. The couple that sits next to me were missing Sunday. They live in Omaha and drive 3 hours all the way to Ames for nearly every game the last 3 years. That is a long drive home when you have to get up for work before 6am. Anyway, they came to town Friday for the basketball game, stayed over night to attend football and basketball saturday, but returned home saturday night. 3 games in a row can be a lot for someone who has to drive 3 hours to get to the games. Still, I applaud his attendance. He shows up for weekday games that don't end until after 9:00. He stays through the end of the final buzzer, then drives home for work the next day.

Re: Attendance
Not referring to specifically depressed people, more the "cocooning effect" of staying home. It hits both spectrum's, when you have $5 seats, for some missing the game is a schedule choice.
On the more expensive,:
1. Many of those seats are corporate seats
2. I know a few who do not even go to the non-conference games. Do not agree with them, but that is what they want to do with the seats they bought.
As with all programs, there is a percentage of this and it "is what it is"
It will not likely change to much.
