After this week I say we definitely have our hands full w/Mercer. It's a real good thing we will have 13 games under our belt by then and that still may not help. They have a couple scorers on their team. They did however lose to Georgia College and State in their last exhibition game so maybe Alabama and Auburn aren't very good. I say they are all winnable but inexperience gives us 2 or 3 losses, 12-3 going into conference play at Texas.
I'd be a little worried about Mercer as well. I won't be able to see the game, however.
Mercer has a good coach and they will be more tested than us. They still play UCLA and Okie State in their non-conference schedule and those are on the road. I think after playing those, they won't be phased about playing us on the road. I think those experiences will improve their team a lot and probably give them more confidence before coming to Ames.
They also have a team with only 3 freshman and 2 sophs all the other guys are Juniors and Seniors, so that will help them as well.
It's a winnable game, but it's a team that's worth keeping an eye on. It's just too far out in the future and we really don't know what we've got with our ISU team!
I don't drink the Kool-Aid, and I am done making excuses. Only keeping it real...
